How do you pump up your tyres. I used to rely on a foot pump but I broke it because my new tyres need 39psi and this was a bit too much for it.

I got an electric one and it is so much easier, faster and lighter.

I have friends though who rely on petrol stations when it comes to tyre pressures and they tend to only check them every 6 months or when they start looking soft.

(10psi drop in tyre pressure does not lead to any visible deformation!)

compressor for me.

but 39psi - mine are only 2.2bar all round (i.e. about 28). i never go to petrol stations as the gauges can be well out.

At home compressor. At least I know it will work unlike alot of garage forecourts I have come across, always out of order!

I rely on fuel stations because I don't have a compressor at home or at least not one man enough to do tyres to 30/35psi, I do though check them every week when I fill up. At 50p a time though I can see the sense in buying a small comprssor for the job.

My tyres are still inflated with Nitrogen and they have not lost a pound yet! I use my Halfords digital gauge to check them all once a month.

I couldn't afford Nitrogen, so I went with a cheaper alternative which is approx 80% Nitrogen. Seems to do the same job.

 It was an experiment starting last year when we were having the big Nitrogen/Air debate!

Errr, that's the same as normal air isn't it?

how would you get your tyres filled with nitrogen in the first place, must it be done by a specialist? I ask because here at work we have nitrogen cylinders and I was thinking I might pilfer a little bit

They do it at Costco's, some Kwik-Fit's, and quite a few independent tyre centres :)
