Hey all i was driving down the M2 today towards a job interview in my Punto and at about 70 - 75 felt a clunk and the Power steering went and the light come on the dash so i pulled on the hard shoulder turned the engine off, turned back on powered steering bumped back on no problems it done it again earlier luckily at traffic lights will i need to get a brand new steering collum or is it a electrical issue as in change the fuse???

I think your car has electric PAS (rather than the more common hydraulic arrangement). If it was a fuse it wouldn't have fixed itself. It's more likely to be a loose connection but do get it looked soon at as the PAS servo motor draws significant current.

Sudden loss of steering assistance can be pretty scary.

you need to take it to a garage and get the steering colum recalibrated
as there are 3 sensors in there and they always go out of sync
used to do them all the time down my old garage dont do them so much now i have moved
