Peugeot 3.0 407
Hi all,

I've been looking for a solution to boost the power on my 407 coupe 3.0 petrol. I see the new diesel coming with 241 bhp and honestly I don't understand it that my petrol 3.0 has only 211 as opposed to the diesel (I guess its the biturbo)

Anyway I was thinking of putting a turbo myself but then again I heard a lot of negative aspects of it, like car going wild on low rpm and constant trouble with it, and to be honest I am not an experienced "tuner". I am willing to spend enough money on it and to hit about 300 hp if that is possible at all, including chip tuning which should go on for an extra ~30 bhp. If anyone has a solution or has done some tuning on 407 3.0 please tell me what to do :D
Thank you

hey and welcome to the site.
sorry to tell you but remapping, or chipping, isnt going to get you 30bhp from the 3ltr unit. more like 12-15bhp.

turbocharging a car is alot of work for serious power. basically youll need to rebuild the engine stronger and with lower compression to handle high boost.

supercharging might be a better option.

Hmm thanks for the info. I don't know much about supercharging, I talked to a friend and he briefly said to me that I'd need to change the exhaust and intake systems to make the supercharger working, and do chip tuning for some reason...I guess to "balance" it out.

I will likely talk to a tuning company to do it for me (I saw a lot of tuning programs for peugeot 406 3.0 but not for 407...I guess im one of the first to experiment :p)
As I've said my knowledge about engine mechanics is relatively poor so I'd need a detailed description!

Also if anyone could recommend a supercharger company that would be great, thanks

youd need to change the exhaust and intake for the turbo as well but you would proberly get away with performance exhaust with supercharging compared to custom build exhaust manifold and downpipes for the turbo. the intake would need changed however.

remapping would have to be done to getthe best gain for it. after a certain amount the ECU wouldnt be able to adapt on its parameters.
might be worthwhile speaking to the companies that do the tuning for the 406 as are the engines not the same?

try speaking to
Pug 1 off
or
Ecosse

as these are both Pug specialists they might be able to help you out but youll proberly need deep pockets

A remapped 2.7 HDi is going to take some beating. Even if you manage to get 240bhp, which I doubt, the diesel is probably good for 400+ lbft torque.

A supercharger should work quite well on those motors I reckon that about 8 psi should be enough to give you a decent amount of power without buggering up your internals...I would recommend using an intercooler or water/meths injection with it just to lower the internal temps down and make it more reliable.....with supercharger I would go water/meths myself DevilsOwn do a good kit for decent money...go for duel nozzle setup for best results

Not yet, been quite busy to be honest. I did find an expert team in my area and we calculated that with a relatively small and reliable turbo the car would benefit a 30% increase in BHP (around ~270ish bhp) but I would have to chip the car also and probably change the exhaust system (which appears to be hard to set as there simply isn't any "supporting room" for it so it would take some beating for that :)

Additionally, anything over 300 hp makes it unstable (I already have "wheel spins" at full throttle in 1st gear with ESP....without it gets a bit weird to see it on a front wheel drive :) ) I would also need to stiffen the chassis and upgrade the brakes (to be honest the brake part is a false perception....but I may be wrong) and maintaining the computer (Adjusting new ESP/Suspension behavior)

The good thing is that all of this can be done for an amount of ~2500 euros but it would totally change the car. This is a GT and not some sort of a 4 cylinder turbo which I failed to understand back then!

Right now, I'm helping out my friend with BMW e38 740I tuning (fitting a turbo) and will see how it works out. If it ends up good, I will easily get persuaded :)

I think there is a company in Belgium that does a turbo kit for the 406 v6 coupe but i still stand by my word and i would think a supercharger would be better because the the nice smooth power delivery, It would suit the car more, as for the wheel spin problem I'm sure that quaife ill list an LSD for your car as it is a high powered model with a good amount of torque that maybe able to help you out there, they claim it will help wheel spin when accelerating in a straight line as well as going around corners
But yeah sounds like you have done your research there mate,
Does your car have the Brembo's on the front by any chance? if so then a set of uprated pads all around(I can recommend Mintex :) ) and some grooved discs all around, I don't rate the drilled or cross-drilled discs as they tend to crack when used heavily the grooved ones would help with heat dissipation and help keep the surface of the pads rough, Mine keep glazing over and they are rubbish when that happens so i have changed the discs to those and they seem to do the tick and i have less brake fade,
But yeah food for thought, Are you going to be using this car as your daily driver? If so I can recommend some suspension for you if you want :)

Brett

ps

I mentioned about the turbo conversion heres a link I found of the net while searching for a 306 gti6 turbo conversion
http://www.dp-engineering.nl/EN/projects/406_v6_turbo.php
The company is in holland not belgium :S

Thanks for the link and info!
I took a look at it and my first impression was "this is big!"

I don't have Brembo brakes, its all stock and I must be honest its pissing me off that when I brake I hear this high pitched noise... (I have talked to many people with 407s and its just a "common" problem which disappears once buying custom made discs, the stock ones seem to be too rough)

And yes, I do use it as a daily drive car (mad fuel consumption!) where as everyone else here drives the almighty and divine 1.9 tdi/hdi/crdi :) I hope this photo will explain it:

Here's some photos of my 407 :)

Enjoy :)

Alright buddy your post got stuck in the mod queue as you require 10 posts before you can upload pics or links. I've allowed it this time buddy, have a wander round the forum you'll soon hit 10 mate.;)

Not really, its relatively new. This is my 10th month :)
Performs great as always, I adore the sound and kickdown reaction speed.

The Coupe is divine to look at.

I'm not sure that I would have bothered with the 3.0 petrol when the 2.7 V6 diesel is more than its equal in standard tune.

6 jet, direct port, progressive NOS system will most likely be the most cost efficiant way of getting you car up to the 300 area. The Courtenay version of the vauxhall 3.0 is 220bhp, mine has had £10,500 spent on it in its life and is still only hitting 240bhp.

Fitting turbo's or supercharger would be good but the amount of money that needs to be spent on the internals of a V6 engine that you may aswll just buy a fast car unless there is a PUG on the market with a turbo bolted on already which there isn't. (SAAB bolted a turbo onto the Vauxhall 3.0 to create 250bhp without changing the internals).

But the NOS system can be set-up so you can reach 300bhp but you will most likley then have to uprate the suspension, brakes, exhaust system, ecu remap, possible stand alone fuel management system, uprated hoses all round, replce bushes.... the list goes on.

Infact there is, 207 gti :)
but the there are turbos for these and a supercharger wouldn't be too expensive, and wouldn't be to hard to fit, and a low boost would still provide a healthy gain
