i have looked at a few 1.6 models but there all in right messes the 1.1 i brought a few weeks ago only cost me 500 and it immaculate just so slow

It will be. The 1.1 was really meant for 106 consumption. There's a 1.6 HDi which is very nice indeed. I have no idea what else you'd need to do replacing a petrol engine with a diesel one though.

Standard tune is 110bhp but should remap to around 150 without too much difficulty.

im looking at getting the 1.6 petrol engine but dont know if i need to change the loom and ecu to run it ect but the diesel sound a good option but would prefer the petrol 1.6

That's a bit of a broad generalisation!!

However, what about the 2.0 Turbo petrol unit which was used in the 406?

Modifying the 1.6 unit to take a turbocharger is going to cost a fair few quid.
