Hi folks

I have a E60 535d. Engine is being fully re-built and I'm going for BIG power.

My question is, will the Performance / Race Camshaft Kit for this make the day to day driving / idling horrible?

I'm also converting the car from Auto to Manual. Just not sure if the Camshaft Kit is worth it when it won't be a track car..

Hi, fitting a race cam to your car will make it difficult to drive and lumpy at low revs. I’ve heard of many people regretting the change.
Town driving becomes a real chore.

The 535d is a fairly low revving torquey engine, so I don't think you'll actually gain much so personally I'd avoid a cam and stick with turbo and mapping upgrades which should enable you to hit some impressive power figures.

That said, it depends on which cam profile you choose. most power gains from a cam happen at the top end, and the sacrifice is some low end power loss, and a rough idle. Increasing tickover is a way to prevent stalling.

Vernier pulleys will allow a fine adjustment of the intake and exhaust cam and help you hit that sweet spot.
