Nissan Pulsar - the best NISSAN ever?

Hi if there are any other Pulsar owners out there tell us what you've done to your car?

pulsar/ sunny's are tarmac terrorists but incredibly fragile, exploding engines are common. buy with care.

Im a new member here,
I drrive a 1993 White Nissan Pulsar GTIR
4x4 2L Turbo
Its had a re-built engine, clutch, gearbox.. etc
De-cated exhaust
after market air filter
Regular service of all oils and belts. using Castrol Edge oil
NGK iridum grade 9 spark plugs
Air Con removed.
Up graded cams
Re built the turbo and up graded it to stage 1 which is a 360 degree bearing in it.
Has a rolling road sheet showing 288bhp but that was before the turbo got rebuilt.

I bet the turbo upgrade cost some serious money. A really good spec and I bet it shifts nicely!

I see you uploaded a pic of your mates car into the gallery! Tell me if the gallery is playing up and if you get any error messages so I can look into fixing it. I really should make it a lot easier to upload images - this is something I will move up my priority list.

the pulsar is no way the best nissan..Its got a chance that it will be rarest.. As there a lots being broken ever week.. Maybe the Z cars or early skyline as the best nissan...

Also the N14 is known for rusting away :/ which is another reason they are getting more rare. I heard stock they arent that hot for handling. I mean with AWD it's good, but the suspension lets it down compared to the later N15 (Almera). Stick some coilies on them though then you're talking The GTi-R is a brilliant machine, and well modded versions are simply superb.

I'd agree with saddler, early Skylines are the best Nissans. R33 GTR is a personal fav.

the pulsar is a great car, huge bhp gains to be had, good looking, and probably the only hatchback to beat the civic type r back in that era, so if they are easily rebuilt, i cant see why anyone would turn 1 away

you can get a sealer for under the car which stops it from rusting,

Whoever told you Nissan engine are fragile is lying. Nissan engines are bullit proof. The SR20 series engine especially. When the SR20 engine was developed by Nissan they put the engine on a dyno in a frame and raised the rev limiter 10% and then ran it on the limiter for 24 hours. The weakest thing in these engines is the clutch. And that is the only downfall to the Sunny/Pulsar GTi-r because it is an engine out job. The engine itself is ultra reliable.

Yes I know what you meant buddy and they are still reliable. They can handle quite alot of BHP on standard internals. And go to a specialist an they can easily be made reliable if you go beyond the internals capability. Honestly mate you have to do alot to kill an SR20 engine.

As far as I'm aware for my engine all I would have to do is change the pistons, intake and exhaust manifolds to accomadate a turbo. Find a spot for an intercooler and remap the ecu. I think. But with a t28 turbo running around 12psi of boost could make a reliable 240-250 bhp. Which is nearly double that of my standard engine. Going beyond this would require serious head work and money. But if you have the money to spend then it will be reliable with the right parts. I give mine death now I know i'm scrapping it. It just comes back for more. It loves being on the limiter and is very very lively. If I was to turbo my car it would be 1 mental Primera.

The best nissan has to be as produced out of the factory not modded as then things just get silly.

Only one car really made a difference on its own to the way people veiwed jap cars.

So standard it has to be the original 32 GTR and honestly , I dont think anything is close

But this applies to ABSOLUTELY ALL ENGINES

I will explain about nissan engines. Unlike your " reliable " engines These can be made to run silly power relatively easily and that is the "problem"

I will use the RB26 as an example.
It may cost some ££££s but it is childs play to make 200bhp a litre and then surprise surprise they sometimes go pop cos you only did half the job .
FFS what do you expect .
Most of your " relaible" engines simply CANT produce that power so they dont blow up - if they could would have died way before the Nissan motor

SO you just cant say an engine is fragile simple because it CAN be tuned.............

Now......................If you modded the engine properly using forged parts they are extremely reliable . Mine has been going for nearly three years and at the last dyno was still giving well over that 200 bhp per litre

Not a clue what his is putting out, bearing in mind though its got a mines ecu, boost controller etc, it has blew 2 engines and he has now just bought a forged engine keeping it standard until he upgrades everything else. Still rapid off the start whilst its standard.

If it's only all over your st it won't be heavily tuned if it was you would be blown into oblivion ( sorry )
with a mines ecu etc it is probably stage one and around 400 . A standard engine mapped correctly will run this power for ages.
Most likely it was that or he just upped the boost too much. Simply fitting a mines ecu can often be the cause as they are pre set not individually mapped
Also if he has blown two engines and you don't know how much power or what mods then any objective thoughts or comments are not possible
