new to this and could do with some advice

i bought a 1999 polo 1.4 tdi a few week ago and im looking forward to increasing the bhp of it. im planning on getting it remapped in a few week but i was wondering what else i can do to improve performance. any info would be useful

ive already got the thumping bass n sick sound system. im looking now to make it my little flying machine. only thing i dont like is the short gears on the polo. your constantly having to gear up but it is a great little car
