What's everyone's opinion on the new F1 qualifying rules coming in through mid season?

Found this for those who don't know:

Qualifying one
  • 16 minutes in length
  • After seven minutes, the slowest driver is eliminated
  • Every 90 seconds thereafter the slowest driver is eliminated until the chequered flag
  • Seven drivers are eliminated with 15 progressing to qualifying two
Qualifying two
  • 15 minutes in length
  • After six minutes, the slowest driver is eliminated
  • Every 90 seconds thereafter the slowest driver is eliminated until the chequered flag
  • Seven drivers are eliminated, with eight progressing to qualifying three, the final part of the session
Qualifying three
  • 14 minutes in length
  • After five minutes, the slowest driver is eliminated
  • Every 90 seconds thereafter the slowest driver is eliminated until the chequered flag
  • Two drivers are left in the final 90 seconds to battle for pole position

It seems to create a large element of chance. 15 minutes or so does not allow a good driver to make up for a lack of traction or issue with another driver blocking.

The shootout for pole position should be interesting though. It will probably be more fun to watch this than the actual race!
