My Cupra R keeps stuttering at high revs in 4th-6th gears

Hi

I wonder whether anyone could give me some advice as to a fault I have with my Cupra R. When I take it on the motorway and throttle hard in 4th, 5th and 6th gears, the car stutters and jolts, like it can't feed the power through smoothly. Seat have had THREE goes at trying to correct the fault but they have failed each time! They thought it was a dump valve problem and replaced it, but it wasn't that. I'm thinking it could possibly be either spark plugs, leads or may be even a fuel injection problem? all I know is that I have been left scratching my head as to how to fix this fault.

It doesn't do it in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gears so much, only in the higher gears at 4000 revs and above. Does anybody have any idea what this could be?

The car is an 06 plate with only 22000 miles on the clock. It has had two annual main dealer services and runs on Shell V-power fuel.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

not sure on the newer ones mate. older ones i would have said coil packs not had much dealing with the newer blocks.

has it been remapped ? i know there was an issue with the earlier 2ltr turbos when remapped as the fuel pump couldnt flo enough

How do you mean remapped? I've not really done anything to it out of the ordinary other than your standard services.

A few people have already said to check to coils actually, so there seems to be a general consensus that's what it could be.

Early VAG coil packs have been known to play up. Most of these have been replaced though by previous owners.

Have they put the car on a rolling road to see what's going on. I suspect it could be the MAF sensor playing up but you'd need to get a full diagnostic really to tell for sure. It can cost a fortune trying to guess a problem and fix it by chance.

by remapping i mean changing the standard fuelling map for a more performance oriented one.

MAFs and idea but still stuck on why its in the higher gears.

It pulls away beautifully in 1st, 2nd and most of the time in 3rd. But once you get up to 4th and try to put the hammer down that's when it will start misfiring and stuttering as if it's having a sneezing fit!

Can anyone recommend a decent tunist or mechanic I can take it to? I refuse to take it back to Seat because quite frankly they are rubbish.

Seat diagnostics bring up nothing? Get it on VAG COM first if it hasn't already been done.

Only happens under hard acceleration you say? Could be a turbo issue. Or leads. Or plugs. Or coils. Or ECU. Or MAF. Or throttle body. I'm sure you get the point. Diagnostics or you'll be there forever changing things.

further north id say go to awesome but manchester, like for me, is a hell of a drive if it aint running great.

herb might know more tuners down that way - midlands are closer to london than scotland is
