pics from today car is now back on the road running 20psi so still 3psi short of what it used to run fuelling is at 11.3afr full boost so defo room for increase.
will be turned up to 23psi ready for going on the dyno on the 26th april to see if we have gained anything.
uniroyal rainsport 3s have to be the best road legal non slick based tyre iv ever used and they still aint bedded in yet.
front and rear strut braces are now refitted and new top hats/bearings with uprated rubber doughnuts, car feels planted and so responsive on the steering.

huge thanks to Justin Keeling/jl automotive who is no doubt the r5 doctor

heres a few pics of my car outside my mates garage (jl automotive/wilsons vehicle repairs) in stoke on trent, just needs a good day of detailing on it now as its filthy.

and a couple of shots of me just about to head out for its first boosting since the work

i will be giving it a quick wash off and a quick coat of poorboys blackhole this morning before we head off to the football in it, then it will be treated to a full detail either tomorrow or next weekend

hi mate poorboys blackhole is a show glaze, its a quick fix product for making the paint look good, should really be sealed with a wax but as said just wanted a quick fix to get it looking presentable.

couldnt resist a cheeky pic of the car still think you cant beat auto glym srp for its all round capabilities.

not long until btcc at donington park cant wait give my car a good boosting up the A50

i got the car properly detailed again saturday spent 4 hours on it unfortunately only had my phone camera to take pics so only got this one

i have since purchased a 16mp camera which should be much better

the day of its trip out to donington park is here as well so ill report back on how it behaved and if we had any fun along the way :)

Sounds good, I hope you have a great time at Donington buddy, looking forward to those pictures on the new camera ;)

Cheers matey it was my goal to make sure car was ready for this. Been looking forward to it since new year.

Yes the new camera should be miles better than my phones 8mp one

Well we got back from donington at 6pm and I can gladly report my car was fault free and performed brilliantly had some fun along the way.
My backside dyno tells me its putting the same power out as before with 3psi less boost afr was 11.4 at wot so alls good.

These cars are just awesome little things, but what I really love is your Reg plate.

There is a little red 5 GT turbo down Southend way. It was at the Southend Cruise I popped along too on Sunday. It was just crazy and after speaking with the owner he said he had beaten many M3's, Scoobies etc etc. Very impressive considering its a 1.4?

I remember years ago when these pocket rockets first burst onto the scene. I was at my brothers gym having a workout when one of the gym members drove in with a brand spanking new red one. We all filed out and drooled over it, it looked gorgeous. He left after his workout with us all still glossy eyed and very jealous :embarrest:

Later we were all chatting in the reception when someone came in and said "You'll never believe this, there's only a gt5 wrapped around the tree at the top of the road" We all went dashing out and sure enough there it was! Broke my heart to see it, no sign of the driver though. I suppose the power just caught him completely by surprise.

haha cheers matey

once you get these things to 180bhp they become a different animal, 200bhp is another step and then to 230+ is in a different league power to weight is a big factor and also how they put the power down, mine really does transfer as much of its power to the road as possible.

i wont go into the kill list my car has  it gained another 3 on sunday though ;)

had a day out boosting in the car yesterday went for a small run around leek and a bit of the roaches stopped off at thorncliffe for 5 and took a quick pic

we then headed to scholar green to a little country pub for some dinner and a drink, car performed great didnt miss a beat just have to work the gearbox a bit more now due to the new spec turbo being a bit laggy, hopefully will be able to dial a bit of this out with mappable aei :agree:

bit of a boring update

weather depending we might be going to darley moor this sunday for the thundersprint event, if we do go were going go in the r5 again i said i want it to be used as much as possible this year and this would put another 85-90 miles on it

another update which is not so boring is that im toying with the idea of going for a full efi conversion on my engine but gotta wait on a couple of things before we can see if i can go for it, failing that it will 100% be getting the mappable aei from france

I was actually thinking of marshaling for Darley Moor this weekend.
But I got my dates mixed up and have my parents German Shepard for the weekend so I can't go. :sad2:

ah thats a shame mate, must admit i do love german shepards though

we can actually get in free all season as one of the mrs's clients is something to do with the owner of the place and has given us a pass :)

That's very handy indeed buddy.
I get in for free cause i'm a member of their marshals club.
That's where i went to get my acu marshals licence. ;)

big update
as above i was really toying with the idea of going for the mappable aei unit from the french guys, but iv decided to go the whole hog and bin the carb and go for a full efi conversion

iv already been in contact with scoff from efi-parts with regards to fitting/mapping and am hopefully buying an already built up and prepped efi inlet from an rtoc member end of this month, i shall then gather parts as and when maybe one thing a month eg cossie fuel pump one month then vxr injectors next one etc.

scoff already does the efi conversion kit so that will be purchased through him along with coil pack and leads.

i really think my cars engine will be amazing with an efi conversion im not to fussed about peak figures more so a more linear power curve with much more low/mid range also much better mpg and turn key starting

Are you now at a limit with the carbs then? What ECU will you use? Nice update though mate. Good to see further progress! :)

Going for adaptronic 420d

Not far off the limit tbh efi os defo the way forward.
I could of always dropped an f7p or f7r in there and turbocharged that but I want to keep the original engine and give it a modern lease of life

Alot of carb fed ones run a genuine 240-250 at a big push but you can get an efi one run the same at lower boost and also it would dance all over the carb one due to a much better low and mid range

so iv now started to out a list together of parts im going to need to carry out the efi conversion

here goes

efi conversion kit from efi parts (ecu/loom etc)
efi inlet/tb/fuel rail set up from michael tierney
efi fuel pump either mk1 golf or cosworth
efi fuel pressure regulator
fuel swirl pot to be fitted in boot
throttle position sensor, air temp and water temp sensors from efi parts
wasted spark coil pack and ht leads from efi parts
saab red injectors
trigger wheel and sensor from efi parts

im hopefully going to do most of the fitting with help from others of all parts before it goes upto efi parts for mapping

if you guys can think of something iv missed off above then please let me know

massive thanks to roy for sending me his pre welded trigger wheel set up for the cost of a pint at the next classic car meet

in other news i have now sold my old faithful workhorse escort van to ash (redoctober) as i now have a works van again so this means the 5 will be getting alot more

i have been out and about boosting the last 2 days and in fact went to do a cash in hand job yesterday in it, who said 5s cant multi task
had some fun on the way home and again tonight finished work and took the car for a quick 6 mile drive with a bit of spirited driving in places
had 2 lads in a golf r32 giving me big thumbs up and if my lip reading skills are upto scratch said "F'in nice mate" haha

all in all i cant get enough of the car atm really has that grin factor back on my face, i cant imagine how much better it will be when its converted to efi

got a quick pic of it parked up at the mrs's aunties which is where were staying tonight dogsitting
