Murali is Buying a Hyundai Sonata

(waynne - I got this email from Murali so I've posted it up as a forum question so we can discuss it.)

I wish to check with you.I intend to buy a Hyundai Sonata ,year model 2003 or 2004.Could you advise me on this car performance.I understand that this car gives a lot of leaks from the seals in the engine.What should I look at apart from the body work.How can I detect from the top engine if there is any heavy leaks.Is there any forums from Hyundai owners whom I can share with.

Hi Murali, I would be suspicious of a very clean engine. Dirty engines will generally show the leaks as dark black patches.

Check that the car has a full service history as well. Also listen to rattles and vibrations from the top of the engine.

It is also worth checking the suspension on these, the gap between the top of the wheel and the arche should be similar on each of the wheels.
