MGTF Newbie

Hi, purchased a TF 160 back in May and now ready to do some engine mods to improve power and torque. Dont want to spend mega bucks, but do want to improve the current package. Any ideas? Car came with a re-programmable ECU and its really smooth and pulls well through all the gears. Wouldnt say its very "quick" tho.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

What make of ECU does the car have, isn't this optimised already? Cams and a turbo conversion are the top mods on these cars, both are quite fiddly.

Does it have the standard exhaust system? Have any other mods been done?

The 160 should be pretty nippy in standard trim as there is no weight to speak of. I'd be interested in the ecu you have fitted as usually such a thing goes with breathing mods so you should be seeing decent numbers and a notable difference from standard.

Hi.

We had a TF135 back in the day and loved it.

The TF was never meant to be blisteringly fast, even the 160, but it handled really well so could carry the speed it had through the corners.

You can get up to aorund 200bhp with extensive intake mods (throttle bodies etc) and exhaust mods, cost you a good few hundred but you wouldn't need to change gearbox or change the character of the car.

Or if you have a spare 4 or 5k you can supercharge to around 230, but then you'd likely need a reworked gearbox/final drive too.
