So, first things on the list....

Front bumper and bonnet are going to be repainted due to some lacquer peel from stone chips which i feel is really letting the car down. Once this is done i will have the car fully paint corrected to remove all imperfections and give it the mirror like finish i crave!

Front grille surround is going to be repainted in satin black to match the grille, this should make the grille appear wider and match in with the black headlight inners i plan to fit, giving the car a much more aggressive look. I will also repaint the lower grilles to freshen them up as they are starting to show their age.

The car just doesnt sit as well as i would like it too, i think the front can come down another 25mm or so and maybe another 15mm on rear. But first i need to remove the arch liner screws that are catching on the tyres. The current 225/40/18 rubber will stay until they start getting low ( unless i blag a real good deal sooner) at which point 215/40 will be fitted to gain me an extra bit of clearance. This will result in a mild stretch, but nothing too excessive, and the car will sit well enough to pull it off!

Power plans.... LOTS!

in the short term, say next 6 months or so i plan to fit:

Oversize Badger5 intake turbo pipe
Front mount intercooler
Forge 007 Diverter valve + relocate to cold side
debaffled charge pipe
Remove N249
Remove SAI
Install catch can and breather
4bar FPR
Aftermarket air filter
Boost gauge
R tech remap

Thats a pretty standard KO4 "stage 2" setup, and should net be a solid, real world 270-280bhp and similar toque figures.

Once the bodywork and engine are as above, parts will start being collected for a Big turbo conversion, the aim is for about 400bhp, which will mean forged H section rods are a must, tubular manifold, aftermarket inlet plenum, AGU big port head,Big Turbo ( model tbc dependant on a lot of other bits!) water meth injection, and a whole host of other supporting mods...

Iv said before that i had a keeper, and then got rid pretty quick... But Now i have somewhat tamed my impatience, and actually seen a project through to completion ( GSXR ) im confident in saying this one will be staying around for a good while yet.

updates will be slow, xmas is coming and all that crap but will update as and when stuff happens.

Cool and aww, how sweet you've given her a name already! It's love isn't it.

wow.... been a while guys. I wont lie to you, my life has been utterly turned upside down, inside out, and finally, getting re-arranged in some sort of order. I left my wife in November, which also entailed losing my home, and my job ( worked with her father). I sold all my toys, my van, and most of my possessions.... Talk about starting fresh!
So as im sure you can all imagine, cars have been the last thing on my mind!

But things are finally back to normality. Most importantly my kids all adjusted really well to the split, and things with them are great, even if i dont get to see them quite as much as i would like, i still get to see them at least once or twice a week. I have new job, new home, and despite not wanting to rush anything after 6 wasted years with the wife, I started seeing someone, who in truth i had wanted for quite some time, and as far as that side of things is concerned, it was the best decision i ever made tbh!

Financially, im currently not in the best of shapes, divorce etc can really take its toll on your credit file lol. But im getting there, and the only way is up right!?

So, the last time i posted i had the Leon - and that in my usual style was rather short lived. I got sick and tired of it tbh, it had more power than it could reasonably use, span up all the time, was too low, too harsh to drive, and in all honesty just wasn't what i wanted, nor needed. I took it because it was a decent deal for the TT, but i never fell in love with it. i traded it for a BMW 320d Touring, which was nice and all, but ended up needing more time and money thrown at it than i could justify. So i sold that on cheap, and bought my mates brothers mk4 Golf gti for £500.

You'd think for that money it would be a dog, but actually its a lovely little motor! its tidy, straight, 134k miles when i bought it, fsh, just had a minor intermittent running issue... but i know 1.8t's pretty well, so i had that sorted (vac pipe split and new MAF) within 30mins of taking the keys. Its done 3k+ miles since, and never put a foot wrong :)
needed a new exhaust joiner and bracket for MOT but that was all! All in all she owes me £600, so id profit if i sold it regardless.
Its nothing special, in fact its ( quite amazingly for a vw owned by me) completely standard!! But, it can transport me and 3 kids around, buggy in the boot and be comfortable doing it. And when the kids arent in the car, well its a Gti, so you can have at least a little bit of fun with it!

If *#*#*#*# goes wrong and i end up keeping it long long-term, i will undoubtedly do the usual, remap, coilovers, wheels, leathers etc. But tbh, atm im really not that fussed.
My heart is still absolutely set on getting my dream car, an E46 M3, and my mrs is working with me to make that a reality, so hopefully by around this time next year, i should be ready to go M3 shopping.

Anyway,

Sorry for the rambling, kinda felt like i owed you guys an explanation for the 10month absence!

Hope you are all doing well.

Peace!

Welcome back. I really feel for you, it sounds like you've really been through it but I'm glad you're getting back on your feet.

Good to hear that things are going better for you as can imagine there was more than enough stress involved in the split up .

Sounds like you have found a new soulmate.

Thanks guys :)

Certainly hasn't been easy, but in the long run its definitely worth it!
Will post some pics when I finally get around to cleaning the golf up!

wow, not like im predictable or anything but....... before i got chance to clean it, i got rid haha!

My mate offered me a deal too good to turn down on this 530i, so i bit his arm off!

But.... Has to be a but eh, BUT, remember the golf hasn't needed a thing in my ownership, took all the abuse i threw at it and just said OK!! well, the bmw lasted about 30miles of abuse before it started making horrific sounds/juddering. :(

Have monday off, and parts are in the boot ready so hopefully she'll be right again next week! then i can start buying bits for her.... this one wont stay standard. OEM+ all the way for this girl!

The propshaft flexible coupling (donut) and Centre bearing were utterly destroyed. literally 2"+ of play in the coupling. no wonder it made such a racket!!

Old vs new!

Unfortunately, yesterday eve when driving my kids back from the park my straight6 decided it wanted to sound like a v8, so it blew the front exhaust clamp assembly :(

Still, despite the fact that i couldnt find a solution to the exhaust today, i did manage to replace the donut and bearing, and touch wood, all seems well. no clonking, vibration, nothing. Just silky smooth 3L straight six powwwwer!! lol

Did have a horrific clunk at high motorway speeds which scared the hell outta me, but couldnt see anything amiss and no further noises/symptoms etc to speak of, so probably just something settling, will have to climb back underneath when i get chance and make sure everything is nipped up right.

Now to look at exhaust options...... BMW want stupid money because you have to replace the whole manifold and downpipe apprently, not just a £10 clamp. Yeah right! ill find a way!!

:)

Had a chat with a mate of a mate at an exhaust specialist place today, he said he can sort it no bother. He's going to remove the studs, replace the gaskets and fit high tensile stainless bolts so i don't have this problem again :)

Now all I need to do is have the work I already did checked over for correct torque settings etc, replace the oil filter housing and rocker gaskets to stop the leaks, and give her a full service, inc gearbox and diff oil.Oh, and a new clutch and brakes.... lol

Sounds a lot i guess, but none of it is deadly urgent, id just rather it was right.

Then i can start on the cosmetics!! :)

Well I got the exhaust sorted, she is silent again :)

Also have a new clutch and rocker/filter gaskets on order as that's the next things on the list. Full service will be done at same time as gaskets.

Brakes have plenty of life left in them so those can wait for now....

Going to order a few small cosmetic tweaks just to toughen it up a bit but the main stuff will happen next year now.

Hopefully about to change jobs so Xmas is going to be a bit tight this year, things should level out enough by Feb to start making the bigger changes :)

at the rate i seem to go through cars mate i cant afford to hang about! lol

Hopefully this one will do me just fine for a good while to come. the stuff i want to do to it is just minor things really, nothing ridiculously extravagant so the things i love about it, the comfort, the power, the space etc, all remain unchanged :)

I wonder what your next project is? How are you doing - we've not heard from you in a while.

And here I am again....

Been through a few since I was last here... Had a vectra for a bit, then another mk4 (gt tdi130 with some trick r32 bits).
That got wrote off in Jan last year when some dick in a merc decide to pay more attention to his phone than to the traffic in front having come to a standstill. Being rear ended at 50mpg is not fun!!!

I bought a 2.7tdi a6 after that which did me for a year before deciding I wanted more power....

Cue the latest acquisition - 2009 b8 audi s4 3.0 v6 supercharged running at 480bhp and 590nm torque

She's fun!!!!! Minor cosmetic tweaks planned, nothin major!!!

Ordered some light smoke tint film for the lights front and rear, yellow for the fogs, red caliper paint and new caliper decals, and going to debadge it.
Then I need to transfer my private plate and fab a small plate mount to go down low on grille between the parking sensors.

That should keep me happy a while

Wow... been a while yet again! I wonder if this place is still active as it once was? facebook seems to be killing off forums over the last few years eh!
Well, the S4..... Cost me a fortune (full engine strip down, new crankcase breather system, new supercharger coolant cores, new clutch, etc etc. Every time i fixed something, somethin else broke. Lost all faith in it and so sold it on after 6 months and £5k down the pan.
Then bought a lovely mildly modded Audi A7 3.0Tdi which i kept for a year and a bit! That's a hell of an achievement for me as this thread shows.....
But i only got rid of the A7 as i got a new job that came with a company car, so last Dec i took delivery of a brand new Mercedes A250E and.... I hate it.
Wife's (yeah i married the new one!) Tesla arrived in March and i have been driving that mostly and she uses the Merc, but i have a new Skoda Enyaq Sportline 80x arriving in May. But thats boring company car stuff......

The important thing is that i have well and truly recovered from the financial devastation of the 1st marriage, and Have just bought a house, which hopefully we can move into in march.
Which means in April/May - I start shopping for a Toy, Gen1 Mustang time.....

And this one will actually be a long termer. I hope......!

Hi mate glad you're still around. The old gang are still around, but it's a quiet time of year for forums at the moment.

Wow you had a sensible car! And got married, wow things have changed for you.

What are your thoughts on the Tesla? which one is it?

Hey Wizzer, Sensible|Boring cars have been my life for a little while now, and i have to admit i kinda like things not needing fixing every 5 mins.....

tesla is only a model 3 SR+, but even being the baby of the family its pretty damn impressive. Ill always be a petrolhead, but Electric certainly has its perks too!
