Hi, my name's Dan, I'm 22 and have just bought myself an 07 plate 2.2tdci Ford Mondeo ST. Pretty tasty little car after having a succession of useless motors that all took well over 13 seconds to hit 60. I've only been driving a year and a half, and have only had an interest in what go's on under the hood for the last 6 weeks or so, but I've managed to own a K reg Clio 1.2 with a 4 speed gear box, an 02 Rover 45 1.8 that I lost when Ice and Lamposts teamed up against me and an M reg Escort 1.4 which I have just parted ways with to pay for the deposit on my new car. I don't have alot of money to throw at my car, and I have no interest in doing up the bodywork, but I want to learn about the inner workings of my motor.

So that's a little about me =]

Thankyou for reading (if you have!)

howstuffworks.com

that has alot of sections on it that go into details on how the engines work.

best thing you can do you the mondeo, get it remapped. but check with your insurance company 1st to see if they will insure you (only having driven for a year and a half might whack up your premuins serverly). if they do your looking at
195bhp and 345 ftlb of tyre shreading torque, not bad for around £400 up form 150 bhp and 265ftlb.

Thanks man. I already found a guy in Northampton tat does what he calls "Re-Flash" Mapping which promises a 30% increase in bhp and torque and a 10% increase in fuel economy, but I'm a little skeptical as 1, I don't want to be taken for a mug, and 2, I don't want to muck up my new car I just bought and be lumped in £11k of debt.

Hi Dan, and welcome to TorqueCars and the real world of car ownership and tuning. I think you will have a lot of pleasure and enjoyment from your car.

Most diesel remaps will give an increase in fuel economy:D The down side is that you should service it a little more frequently and change the oil every six months to be on the safe side. A small price to pay for such extra power.

Don't forget to tell your insurers about the remap, they may well load your premium or refuse to cover you. (Check this out first if you do go ahead;))

Cheers fella. Yeah, this is the problem with tuning any further. I'm already pushing £110 a month on insurance and can't really afford much more. I might have to wait until I get a pay rise before I do anything. In the mean time I can learn all about how my engine works. It looks beautiful under the hood. I picked it up today and have just enjoyed driving it for two hours. Fuel economy on it is awesome!

Definitely not! Lol. but that makes it all the better! When I'm rolling around with the sprog in the back and I'm doing the limit and behaving myself I'll never use any fuel! Lol.
