in your opinion what would be the best low budget car (i mean couple of grand) to get an then mod for drag racing? i was looking at supra's as i've seen some do a 7.6 1/4. one even doing a 6 something. either that or an old school american muscle car.

7.6 second quarter? I think youd need about 1200bhp for that

Dont think your going to get anything that will get anywere near that time for two grand, youll be lucky to get something in the 14 second quarter bracket.

you have got my goal a bit wrong. i was planning on spending that on the car AND THEN spending..... however much it takes to get a near 9 second actually, however much it takes to get it as fast as poss

Ok, I think youll end up spending about £10,000 on the engine alone, this isn't a "low budget strip runner"

..... that may be the case but i dont want to spend loads on a car so then i can spend it on the engine. it goes either way i can either spend quite a bit on a phat fast car, an not have anything left to mod it, or get a cheapish car and mod the hell out of it.
i would rather get the car then spend the money on a car modding it

what car would be the best to get the most power gains out of it.
any ideas

Didn't someone take a Jag V12 - strip it right out and add loads of NOS. That would probably come in under £2K. Don't expect it to last too long though and you'd really need wider rear wheels;).

yeah it was top gear. it was out doing most supercars on the 1/4 mile. dont know how long it lasted as thats what they used to kill the1st stig

yeah he shot off the end of the aircraft carrier in the noz'd jag. they did it cos he did donuts in a near million pound car (cant remember what it was) an broke loads an when it came out to the insurance for it everyone found out who he was

i was think that, but old american muscle cars are quite pricey, the one's under a couple of grand need quite a lot of work to get it running

who he was ??? shows how many more have been involved. theres around 4 stigs now, i know who 1 of them is as one of the guys that help the cadets is a freelance photographer and taken pics of him taken the helmet off a few years ago. but there all sworn to secrecy :blink1:

the first black stig was perry McCarthey (i think thats how its spelt) anywho... back to topic. what do people think of a mr2 for modding for drag running? i really want a light weight rear wheel drive car. can you get good powergains out of a mr2, now i know if you put enough money into anything you can get good power gains but i dont want to spend huge amounts just a moderate amount.

You want a light car with a large engine bay so you can put a big powerful motor in. Get something like a morris minor, vauxhall chevett or a Mk2 escort and stuff a big V8 in it. Older british rear wheel drive cars weigh nowt. Std minor weighs in a 750Kg and a chevette weighs in at 850Kg. not sure about the old escort though but I bet its well under the 1,000 Kg mark.

good idea. thats the sort of thing i was looking to do. fingers you've rebuilt a few v8 engines, or the same one a few times lol, well how easy or hard it is to give em a good overhaul an up to scratch after being stood for an age an run to the ground nearly.
