Is this a turbo thing...or is there something wrong!?

Had my 1.7 CDTi Vauxhall Corsa for a couple of weeks now, but am finding that occasionally when I'm pulling away I'm getting a kind of jerking thing going on & it can be quite a jump sometimes. It's seems to tend to happen when I'm pulling away in a higher gear, like second gear when I've slowed right down for a roundabout or something and the car's going about 10-15mph - could this be the turbo doing this or do I need to get it looked at?

Thanks

might Just be the way you drive. Like letting the clutch out too quick. you will prolly get Somemore answers on here soon

its just the turbo kicking in this is normal you just have to get used to driving a turbo diesel i mean i drive a combo and its not very often i have to change down to 2nd for roundabouts or corners i use 3rd its just getting used to the revs and torque in each gear

Does it match anything you do like accelerate or clutch up? Or does it just do it mid way through something?

Waynne, this is happening only when I accelerate and it particularly doesn't like it if I accelerate in a higher gear. HDI - what exactly is the DMF?

Cheers

Dual Mass Flywheel. in place of a standard flywheel a lot of car, esp diesels, are eing fitted with a DMF. its basically 2 flywheels connected by springs and a friction pad.
the 2 discs allow vibrations from both engine and gearbox are minimalsed.
over time the springs lose there "spingeness" so the 2 discs rotate at different speeds causing alot of vibration.

It sounds to me like a sensor is playing up. The load increases in higher gear acceleration - ideally you should keep the car in the power band. This doesn't sound right to me though and I wouldn't put it down to a "turbo thing" they come on progressively rather than just a big jolt.

hi tjw2007 when you are slowing down for an island in 2nd gear are you keeping the clutch pressed in ???

I think you're at the point where someone else is going to have to drive the car as this verbal diagnosis is getting difficult. Rather like trying to tune a piano down a phone line.

Thanks for all the advice guys - I'm experiencing something else as well which I think is connected, sometimes when the engine is idling the revs will be erratic, usually dropping from about 800-400 about every second for about 10 secs and then it calms down again. I'm wondering if the spark plugs need looking at - what d'ya think?

diesels dont use spark plugs, it works by the commpression when the engines warm and glow plugs when its cold.

erratic idle sounds more like a sensor issue. Aug 07 means it should still be vered by warrenty

It's only recently that diesels have had MAFs, too. I think this really should be a dealer or independent specialist diagnose job. And don't give it to your average diesel specialist - find someone who knows the vauxhall CDTi engines. I think they're Fiat derived.

Got it booked in at my local Vauxhall dealers, they should know what they're talking about. I'll let you know what they find - hopefully it won't be anything too serious!

Cheers.

Took it into a Network Q garage on Fri - they couldn't find anything wrong with it, although it is an intermittent problem. So I guess I'll stick with it and see how it goes!

if it is intermitment does the vauxhall ecu not store the code as an intermittent fault ? i know my vw one does as ive had to clear a couple from mine from when i disconnected the battery

The whole thing was dissapointing! Never got to speak to a mechanic, the girl on reception just handed me a filled in form, which looked like they'd just done a service and basically there was no feedback from anybody. Really don't know about the ECU much, so couldn't say. I reckon when I get it remapped, they'll run a diagnostic first anyway which should pick up any irregularities.

Got really angry with the car this morning, felt like there was next to nothing in 1st & 2nd gear - I know there's supposed to be some turbo lag, but even the turbo doesn't feel that impressive when it kicks in. What I can't understand is why a Kia Cee'd 1.6 CRDi LS has so much more kick in it when it's specifications say it's got quite a fair bit less torque & bhp!

Take it back and tell them to look at it properly not just connect it up and go theres no fault codes. get them to take it out a run and look at the values themselves
