iv noticed that this is a mainly uk forum and that there is alotof talk of hondas and the small hot hatches, just curious as to what kinda cars modifiers gravitate to in different areas of the world.

here in western australia almost all the focus is on the high power nissans and big local v8s simply because there isnt that many windy roads.

So yeah is there different trends through out different countries

I think there are definately different trends around the world. Even our bigger cars are small beside a lot of Australian and US models. This does mean that we get better performance from our "small" engines especially with a turbocharger.

Our roads are very twisty and overcrowded so smaller cars are preferred and with our extortionate fuel prices £1.10 per litre (I'll let you do the conversion!) we need economical but nippy cars.

Personally for me I think I would say the UK tuners are favouring Turbocharged hatches (liftbacks!) We get quite a few buying into Diesel and I certainly don't think diesel has really become credible in the US, what about is Aus?

I think we don't really have one. There's everything here. Don't see many turbo'd petrol hatches around these days compared to everything else!? Or at least I don't and I spend most of my time travelling up and down the country.

Bigger and bigger move towards diesels so it seems.

I think tuners in this country favour Turbos. I see more EVO's Imprezas and the like around than ever and the line up from VAG group is including more and more turbo's.

Remember though that we are not talking average cars, just what the tuners prefer in each country ;).

I imagine the US is similar to Australia with big V8's and superchargers being the order of the day.

What no Diesels:lol:? You are really missing out, look at the silly Torque figures and high fuel economy offered - they have come on a long way in the last few years.

Oh yeah...good point :embarrest: In that case it's all Jap, Jap and more Jap.

TN, you're a lucky boy then compared to everything else I never see any of those any more round here apart from my mates Punto GT and another S2 RS Turbo which is nearly finished. Oh, I saw a Glanza today for the first time in months. All this despite just driving to fleetwood to spend the weekend there, then driving up to Darlington for the week, then back down to Brum. Driving 45 mins to Coventry every day too atm. See loads of Evo's, DB9's. S3's etc etc and stuff but none of those you mentioned.

There's absolutely loads round this way. Mansfield has alot go down there as well most days.
There's the old R5 that lives at the top of my road. He's got a series 2 R5 as well.
There is another R5 down the road from my mums and also a S2 Escort Turbo.
I've seen about 3 different Glanza's in the village not far from my house.
There is a Mk4 Escort Turbo Cab that works on the industrial estate across from me.
Honestly the list goes on there's loads.

In the south west it seems to be highly tuned sedan cars that are brought up by enthusiasts, lots of subaru's, evo's, and skyline GTR's (R-34, not the new ones).
the boy racers like their dodgy hatchbacks, but very few people bother with proper hot hatches.

I reckon it must be the roads, often they are in such bad nick you'd need rally pedigree material or stig proof handling to stay on at speed. the rivers and hedges are full of burning peugeot 106's - you can find them by following the trail of bodykit parts that are torn off on the bumps.

I'll agree with TN here. I've seen a few Nissan GT-R R35s lately. Often see Mitsubishi GTOs/FTOs, Lancers and endless Imprezas.

Perhaps the least common one I see is a Pontiac Coupe (used to be on Sutton Road, near John Cockell pub). Also, there used to be a Shelby GT500 that I saw a lot in Kirkby.

Conversions are quite common around my area. There are a few silly ricers/boy racers around but fortunatly they are fading away and seem to be going else where. There are some very nice motors around me though. Owner of the local cruise site has an Evo 9 FQ360. Theres a Supra thats had £10K spent on it and is running 714bhp, few nice Hondas, best being a turbo'd DC5 integra, mine has a bit of a reputation aswell as being a wolf in sheeps clothing lol. BMWs have sort of been boo'd out of the area as they dont go down well for some reason lol, never mind. Of course theres the 2 Fiat Cinkys that have had conversions (i could go all day with this list lmao)

But yeh conversions are the most popular around me i think.

Was that Pontiac near where the Limo parks now?

No, the house next door to the old shop (that hasn't been a shop for however long) on the corner of Sheepbridge Lane. Took me ages to figure out what it was, being bright yellow and having a body kit. Think it was the G5.

Still there as far as I know, but those big gates are often closed so you can't look down the drive. Also looked to have had a bash, as the bodykit was cracked last time I saw it close up.

An I bet that GT500 is at Kirkby Cross roundabout?;)

Possibly now, but I used to see it at the top of Kingsley Street.

Possibly the most easily identifiable big-engined car I see is the Corvette C5. Mind you, since that half-wit killed themself this way a couple of years ago (from all accounts, drove past the national limit marker, floored the accelerator and lost control) I havent seen as many - wonder if it was them most times?

But that's digressing, the largest cars by proportion are small hatchbacks (a lot with fartcans attached).

Maxpower is not representive, thankfully. Maxpower is to serious car tuning what Ghenkis Khan was to world peace!;)

Looney Tuning seems popular though.

Also, starting to see a lot of "Powered by Fairy Dust" stickers.

I think the most popular modification here in Iceland is tha raised up 4x4. They are not raised like americans do it but it is done the Icelandic way that is only known and done here. This involves BIG tires and a special type of suspension and other things pussled together to make some real offroaders. They are designed to go through heavy snow, rivers and rough terranes. The only cars that have driven to the north pole were shipped to Iceland for modification plus a few Icelanders were taken on the tour for theyr experience and knowlege of this kind of driving. Most of the cars, if not all, that have driven to the south pole were allso modified in Icleland and driven by Icelanders. Here is an example of this: http://schmidt.blog.is/img/tncache/...es_jeppasyning_i_fifunni_0kt_2008_jeppi_1.jpg

This modification is usually followed up by chip tuning, an engine setup and often a bigger turbo.

Then there is the Formula Offroad style which are some crazy offroad vehicles driven by crazy Scandinavians. It started in Iceland but has spread to Norway, Sweden and Finland as well. Around 1000 hp, 600 kg and nitrous injected beasts driven up almost vertical hills (nice vids on youtube)

The Hondas, Golfs and Subarus are popular with the younger ones but the most popular modification here must be the offroad 4x4
