I think i killed my yaris

I have an 04 plate yaris d4d. its been great little car that has been driven like a grandad on my daily work run (100 miles a day), but over the past few months I have noticed a lot of smoke comming from the exhaust.

The smoke comes when pressure is applied to the throttle. Is this meaning that the turbo has gone or is about to let go. The more pressure added the more smoke arrives.

As I said I drive 100 miles a day and need a reliable car to get to work. The car has had a very easy life and never gets thrashed and I normally only travel at 60mph which is just over 2k rpm. The car has covered 80k miles.

The smoke is a thick white sort of colour but does smell of oil.

There isn't any loss in power and the car is regularly serviced as required. the only problem was during the cold snow at the start of last month I ran out of diesel and the car cut out (showed up the engine light on the dash). I then got the failfull gerry can out and re filled the car and drove the car to the garage to fill her properly (I know I should have re filled but working nights and in the back end of beyond no petrol stations were open). I then took the car to the local toyota secialist and he put it on the fault finder machine and it showed fuel starvation. As said the car runs fine just belches smoke.

Any sugestions? If not anyperson need a a smoke machine for a party?

wynns do a "stop smoke" adative, cheak the your spark plugs, will tell u what is happening in the chammber, sure google can give you somethink to help you tell what is wrong with the plugs.

try and issonlate the problem before you do any work on it, dont want to spend any unnessarly money

no sparks in a diesel mate.

do you know if it uses a varible vane turbo ? the problem might be that you drive like a grandad that the vanes have became stuck and not boosting properly. WD 40 is your friend here but iw ould have thought that it might have showed as a fault.

whats the coolant levels like ?
does it have a water cooler that uses the engine coolant ? this may be leaking and allowing coolant into the oil

Yup Check the coolant levels. Did it start smoking after an oil change? What grade was used?

It might be worth getting a compression test done to see if the cylinders/rings/linings or valve seatings have gone.

Oil burning tends to have a blueish tint, white is normally the presence of water/coolant.

coolant levels are fine checked that, I have also added the wynns injector cleaner and a new filter and new oil (toyota specialist advice).

Turbo seems to be boosting properly there is no loss of power.

I am stumped.

Car has now been booked into the toyota garage on monday so going to find out about a loan today to pay the b******s. I hate taking the car to the manufactures garages but they are the only hope.

Cheers

maybe it could be the oil seals in ur turbo are on their way out...
if the seals are leaking oil into ur exhaust as it burns it will be blueish/white.... hence, the smell of oil...
if u say that there isnt any change in power most probably this could be ur prob... very comon prob.. easily resolved by changin ur turbo for a new one of have it overhauled.. new bearings and seals...

Check your exhaust and boost pipes for excessive amounts of oil. Sounds like the oil seals to me too. It'll be cheaper to source another second-hand turbo rather than rebuild your existing one.
