How to modify ECM data?

Hello Friends, I've seen in a few movies (Fast& Furious), that they modify the ECM data to increase performance. Even they're doing it using a Laptop while racing. How they do it? I knew that the ECM data is hard to crack because it is locked by manufacturers. Please help me out another time !

It would be cheaper and more convenient to replace the existing ECU with one of our local brands, at least in my experience here in Bangalore.

Often better performance with an aftermarket ECU as they have higher resolution tables, options for add-ons such as launch control etc etc.

Whilst mapping your own car with a laptop is possible (I'll be doing this soon enough hopefully), you shouldn't believe everything you see in the movies.
