We can, indeed. As long as your happy to be incorrect, that is.

sorry chap I know my sources are correct I think you need to talk to my friend hes a pug diesel specialist and used to work for them.....and thats what hes told me...if he's wrong then thats the last time I'm letting him touch my car....

Your friend, as special as he or she is to you, is wrong. PSA's first attempt at a smoke free diesel was the 2000 model year DW12TED4 engine. 2179cc, twin cam diesel. It was actually the first European light duty diesel to be thus equipped.

Just got back from the peugeot garage, as i had to get them to have a look at the horn which is all fixed for £40, as they had to renew some connector points.
while i was there i asked about the exhaust....... MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE A PARTICLE FILTER! so i hope that ends all the banter
Ive also had new brake pads and discs fitted as i had the brake light flashing at me (plus they looked abit crud)

Next in the pipe line is the cam belt and water pump, any ideas what price i should be looking at paying?
After that im gunna push on get the car into the tuning shop.

StubbywillbertL: "MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE A PARTICLE FILTER! "

I know :). I said this all along.

We must all be very careful to avoid Jarrus' mate's garage with our diesel Peugeots lest he makes further errors of judgement when identifying vehicle components.

Clearly he has no idea what he's talking about. Or perhaps no idea what we're talking about.

Cambelt change cost me about £400 at 96,000 miles (first change!!! - very high prescription mileage). The 2.2HDi is a twin cam engine so I hope your 2.0 will be cheaper.

I didn't bother with water pump. Both that and the tensioner packs were examined by guru Matt Jobling of Pug1Off in Brackley and he pronounced them fit for an additional 96,000 miles. What you should do is replace the coolant (make sure to use the OAT stuff and don't go by colour!!!) despite PSA saying it never needs changing.

Also just had an email back from performance 3000, intercooler, sports exhaust and remap all in for £1250 and they would be looking to keep the car for around three days.
give it a few more weeks and i should have the cash saved up an alls go!!!

Do you reckon the internals would be able to cope with this tuning? or is there any kind of safe guards i can take to stop any major problems down the line.

Also i put some of that millers fuel additive in the tank... good stuff, like the k&n i havent gained major power gains but a smoother delivery of power and a smoother running engine.

The internals will be fine but I suggest that you follow the rules of no thrashing when cold and allowing cool off when stopping before switching off the engine (2-3 minutes after hard use). This is to enable the turbo temperature to stabilise as the bearings are cooled by oil only.

Whatever you do, and this applies to ANY turbocharged car, petrol or diesel, DO NOT rev the engine before pulling the key. This spins up the turbo and then you remove all the oil pressure by switching off.

Keep your servicing up to date and I also suggest switching to fully synthetic engine oil. I think that AMSOIL's is the finest available so I use 5w/40 DEO.

Millers DSP 4 is a good product and in the long term is reckoned to add additional lubricity to the diesel fuel, thus extending injector and pump life etc. I'm now at 121,000 miles with no issues (the remap was done at 54,000).

I look foward to hearing from you when it's all done (and before, of course!) - I think you'll get quite a surprise the first time you put your toe down. And it will keep on surprising you. That wave of mid range grunt is very addictive and it's a sensation that you really cannot replicate with a high-revving petrol engine.

I might get a turbo timer wired in when i have the time and cash. ill have a research in to it.
The company that want to do the work on my 406 seem to think they can fit a intercooler into the front of the standard bummper, they havent seen the car yet.... im thinking that an intercooler in the same place as the 110 would be alot easier and be alot more hidden... I dont want the car to look like a jap skirt flasher showing off her gubbins...lol

There is probably space beneath the bumper line in between the front fog lights. but this would look exactly like you said it would look.

Be careful with turbo-timers. I've heard of insurers voiding theft claims on cars fitted with them. It's for this reason that I don't have one (yet).

Merry xmas everyone... soz i havent been online for ages!!! i did the silly move of buying a house... just done a service on the car at 35.000miles had a new cam belt fitted also. so the car is in a good and ready state to tune. also the pannel filter is in a rubbish state now... so im looking into an induction kit... i can find an induction kit for the 110 will that fit the 90?

many thanks everyone.. time for me to pull the cash together and get this car rolling!

talking about the intercooler thing...
is it possible to upgrade it to a larger one for the sake of the turbo...?
because as it is fitted to the right of the radiator, it differs from the sporty one...:D :D

I wish to upgrade one to be mounted up to the front of the radiator....
is it possible...
are there much additional works to be done..??

and how to increase the boost pressure...?
and while driving I have noticed that at around 3000rpm, I get a kind of small and pretty unnoticeable knock from the engine..Is it the turbo that kicks in..??

sorry for loads of questions...
i only want to know my 406 better..
and I have an HDi 2.0 110 bhp without the particle filter...:p

heyy HDI, can you brief me on that please...

The turbo should be pulling from well below 2000rpm.

There is no noticeable kick with a turbo-diesel, just a swelling of torque and acceleration. I suggest that you get your engine checked over before attempting any remapping whatsoever.

Celtic Tuning (amongst others) will remap your car for around £300 and give you a much livlier and lazier drive. All good operators will not work on a car with a pre-existing fault.

Your car is the 90bhp one, so it's well worth fitting an intercooler before changing anything else at all.

I Have the 110bhp one with the intercooler...

Sorry - I looked at the thread title and mis-associated it with yours. Straight remap then should see about 150bhp and 250ish lbft.

The intercooler is at the front, beside the radiator and a/c condenser, yes?

Just checking because your profile says 2.1 not 2.0

If you had the 2.1 (2088cc) engine then it's an earlier XUD engine. The intercooler is mounted on top with these engines IIRC.

The 2.2 (2179cc) is the 16v HDi engine.

Ohh No...!!
It's the 2.0 one...
it's just a typing error about the 2.1 thing....:D

The HDi 110 will tune to about 150bhp and give about 250lbft torque (which is more than a 2.2 HDi in stock tune). But do ensure that it's running properly before getting anyone to remap the ECU.
