When i first passed my test i wanted a qoute on a corsa, and when i had search to the bottom of the compare website qoutes page. An insurance company wanted to charge me £36,000 for an R-reg, 1.4l, 5 door corsa lol. i was gob smacked. i wonder how many people have paid that much for there insurance. i could understand if you bought a lambo for your first car lol

each company looks towards what they are wanting. everybody hates new drivers but some want older drivers as they are less likely to have a claim so the company can make more money. to put people off they simply add a huge premium for being under 30.

i pay just over 400 for mine but still get quotes back over 8k

High quotes are just a deterrent to drivers - the insurer is really saying "sorry we don't want your sort in here matey!"

It does pay to shop around though, prices do vary a lot and the online quote supermarkets are not 100% accurate and do not cover the whole market.

i'm running two policies and interesting differences in the space of 3 months:

Mitsubishi Carisma DiD: 3yrs ncb: GBP430
Ford Escort 1.6i: 3yrs ncb: GBP177

both valued at the same price. ?

5 years iv been driving fleeced me after a ban £1600 on a 2.0 non turbo diesel almera was my final choice, would'nt even entertain the small engined corsa's at £1700 - £2000 and i advise not to use comparison websites find the cheap quote on there then miss the middle man out and go direct to insurer and see what they say comparison website work on commission most of the time.

took me a few secs to work that out pg. just to say when you phone the insurer direct they dont have your records if you make yourself a day younger on the comparison website am i right in saying this pg.

yup. as your getting the returns from the comparision site it generates all the referance numbers for the companies

now when you phone up with your name postcode and DOB they dont have anything for you and start afresh,
if it works out more then give them the number and ask why, when they say about the dates dont match plead ignorance and you must have selected the wrong one and not noticed

To answer your question, " How does insurance work ? " Simple, you hand over an extortionate amount of money each month/year etc. One day, if you're unfortunate enough you will need to make a claim and they will do their damndest to wriggle out of paying out or take so long to do so that you have given up hope, grown old and senile and forgotten that you ever made a claim in the forst place. In the meantime they will increase your policy price annually to reflect that you have had the sheer audacity to make such a preposterous claim, when you should know better than to want to use some of that insurance scam that you hand over each month/year.
That's how it works. ;)
Other insurance companies are available to scam you, please don't be angry when they do.
Shouting down the phone, threatening death or similar kind deeds does not get your claim paid any quicker.
If you are very lucky, you will even be able to speak to someone who speaks the same language as you do, but i can't guarantee that, unless of course you actually originate from Bombay.
Have fun.

Insurance Company's Are a Joke......When I first Passed my Test, I payed £200 on a Clio 1.2!

A Year Later they said to me I cant carry on the Policy as they are unable to insurance me and quoted me with a next price of £498!!!

That was with Elephant.co.uk and when I wanted to Cancel my policy they said I had a remaining Balance of £34 so I should keep it an extra month and get Year NCB, I said No Problem, Thanks for telling me.

After 2 Months Later, I phoned them up asking for my Proof of NCB they said No We Cant send them off as you canceled your Policy early and have to pay £34 for us to Send off my NCB, I said There's no Way your going to get the money over your screwup and Hung up.

So Started again with Admiral who are very friendly and helpful and on a 10 Month Policy which I like
