I've never posted on a forum before but I need advice on what to do with my 2000 Camry engine to make it have more torque. The pickup is okay but where I live I have to go from 0-60 mph right away because of me living right off of a state highway. Any help?

Greetings and Welcome to TorqueCars My Friend! :)

Unable to give you any direct advice on this one, but someone will be along in a little while to help you with some answers.

Good luck ;)

Thanks! As additional information, I have thought about installing a cold air intake but my car is kind of heavy so I don't know if it will really help that much. I would appreciate any advice.

I think the main thing letting your car down is like you've pointed out - it's very heavy - i recommend taking all non essential stuff out of your boot etc, a lighter car = a faster one ;)

Indeed your right dagger, and I might add (stick my neck out here) that a cold induction system done properly would help with throttle response and a remap of your ECU should help even more. Make sure that the car is fully serviced with plugs, oil, filters etc before the remap. Tell the mapper what it is that you want to achieve i.e. quicker acceleration and if this can be done at the expense of fuel consumption (sometimes easier to action) or if fuel economy is important to you. He will know what the best course of action is to take.

I barely keep anything in my car. The only thing I carry in it at all times is a portable battery charger and sometimes my purse if I'm shopping or going to college those days but other than that there's really nothing that's weighing my car down that I can just take out. Thanks T9 I'm gonna go see a mechanic about that. Any idea what that costs though? I have no concept of the price range. And I do enjoy talking to u guys about my car ;)

I see your situation a little clearer now from your previous post. Lightening the car usually entails removing things like the spare wheel, you can compensate for this by buying a small canister that will repair a puncture and inflate the tyre at the same time thus saving you a lot of weight. The removal of the back seats, door cards etc. These are just a number of things that you could do to remove excess weight from the car and therefore the engine will perform a little better, yet I sense that this may not be for you.

The remapping of the engine (can vary considerably in prices) may not be available from your local garage as it is a specialist skill but seek their advice anyway as to where to go if they do not do this type of work. In the UK you are looking anywhere between £100 and £500 depending on the type of company used and the type of map created. The better type of map will involve a rolling road, this is where the car is placed on a rolling road and run while the mappers equipment monitors where improvements can be made to the engine performance. The other type of map will be a static one where the mapper will have a series of tried maps that he can put onto your car to get the performance you seek. Obviously the rolling road version will cost more because of the work involved.

After all that, I hope you car will accept a remap as some manufacturers have certain restrictions on their systems that make remapping difficult if not impossible (for now anyway).

Sorry if this post seems a little long but I have tried to explain things in a easier and straightforward way for you too hopefully understand it a little better - I hope!

Good luck ;)

I don't have a spare tire-not sure what happened to it. I do use the backseats sometimes but maybe if I really think about it I can find some ways to lighten my car. It would be better than doing all of that remapping. Okay well thanks a lot!

All depends on how much money you want to blow

if you dont have much just look at weight, if you got a moderate amount get an induction kit and if you got lots to spare get a big supercharger.

I don't have much money to spare unfortunately so I'm trying to figure out how to make my car go faster without having to spend too much. Is there a cheaper alternative? One that doesn't include shotty work done to my car.
