Hi guys, just after a bit of advise if anybody knows. i am after fitting new Sidelight bulbs to front of my Impreza (WRX 54plate 2.0L turbo - that shape lol) BUT the sidelight bulbs seem to be hiding inside of the wing.. the normal headlight bulbs are done which ya can get access to but there is no gaps or owt for the sidelight bulbs. I tried taking bit of wheel-arch out to try get hands up thinking it be able to do it that way but the backing for the sidelight appears to be screwed on which means am gunna have to take headlight out.. now just after bit of advise? has anybody else come across this? i know theres 2 bolts at top but that doesnt release the headlight so am presuming there is a bolt underneath but only way to get to that is by removing bumper... which i dont wanna be getting involved too much into really!.. any tips or advise?

Cheers

What you need is a haynes manual. There should be an easy way to change the bulb. Why do car makers make things so hard.

Cheers waynne.

ye thats exactly what i am thinking, it shouldnt be such a big job just to change a sidelight bulb. will have to go and look and see what i can find

watch out you may need to remove the bumper some car makers are starting to do this so you end up having to take the car to a dealer so they can charge you £20 in labour to change the bulb.

dihatsu have done this with 1 car where the engine light comes on when a bulb blows. the bumper has to come off headlight off to change then any bulb. then have to put it all back togeather, and THEN take it to the dealer to get the warning light reset

Just phoned KT Green (subaru) and spoke to the workshop and they comfirmed it, you have to take the full front bumper off to change the front sidelight bulbs.. dont think i will be doing that just for sake of couple bulbs (well untill the ones i have in blow)

No you do not. Take the intake scoop off that is fed into the wing. Take the grill off. Make sure all nuts and bolts are removed from lights. Pull hard. It is a pain but the bumper does not need to be removed.

Hmm may have to give this a try.. when you say "pull hard" am presuming you mean on the headlight? knowing my luck if i "pull hard" well.. i will price a new headlight up before i start

Yeah the headlight . Probs think you are going to crack the wing (so be careful). It is a shi**y job but you'll crack it.

Cheers for tip, i will try it see what happens but if its mega tight i will wait untill i do extra work on it like timing belt etc when i will drop bumper for easier access then get in easier.

will have a play and let ya know if i manage to do it

Will do cheers. do you know much about modifications to a 54plate 2.0Turbo WRX. i am wanting as much power and BHP as i can on original pistons and gearbox i am thinking of getting a uprated clutch and flywheel just wondering if you have any tips?
i have a Full magnex D-cat and induction kit and thinking about uprated fuel pump, regulator and injectors then the VF34 roller bearing turbo and maybe bigger intercooler then get it re-mapped to suit the new style.

Thinking that will take me to around 330BHP but is that the limit i can go?

Cheers for any advice its much appreciated

330 - 350 will be about the limit bud. TBH you'd be better of selling and getting an STI if you are wanting big extra power.
The above modifications with that turbo will give you between 270 - 300bhp and similar torque.

Ye i wanted a STI but insurance was going to be stupid money, coz i am only 20. was lookin at my shape but STI and insurance would be around £7,500 for the year BUT i have seen a really nice impreza the hawk eye shape (one after mine) thats a 2.5 STI full uk spec but insurance wants around £12,500 to insure me so thats why i went for the WRX for now tune it up a little bit get it little qiucker around 330BHP which will be roughly same as a standard STI (or maybe little more)? then in couple of years when more no claims and obviously little older the insurance will come down alot.

Good move. Standard STI is circa 265bhp BTW. With PPP is about 300+. Who are you insured with? Try A-Plan & Keith Michaels, these specialise in Subarus. Worth a phone call on a quote for an STI.
