So sorry for my very slow reply, I've been busy updating the site framework and chasing bugs. Hopefully we are there now, with a much faster more efficient site and server.
Most VW engines from that year will drop in, the physical engine size is the only issue, so stick with a 1.8T for best power gains and tunability or similar. Also you'll need a gearbox upgrade. The newer 1.4 TFSi can also be made to fit these and will give a nice power gain.
