Well... it seems rude not say hello :)

I am in the UK and currently have a Supra TT Auto (UK), and it is reaching the stage of needing a bit of TLC here and in addition I am researching modifications for it. So far I have recovered the seats (and I gave the upholsterer artistic licence to do what they felt was right, and the result is very nice.) and I had a Clifford G5 alarm system installed.

So - mods - well actually the next step is a thorough going over mechanically, just normal stuff to keep a car in good condition and protected etc.

Now - I received with the car with a pile of receipts a mile high - a thoroughly comprehensive history - and it turns out that owner #1 spared no expense and then owner #2 seems to have run out of money but nevertheless installed some stuff, as far as I can tell, in the dark using a hacksaw and a hammer... so I have some nasty aftermarket pillar gauges, no driver air vents and no interior lighting (a snooper thingy instead) - and I think some of the wiring was done by putting wires and solder into a cement mixer... so there is definitely a need to do some interior improvements.

Power wise - someone put in a Blitz Dual SBC controller, and set sensibly as far as I can tell, and the mechanics of that are good quality and well installed. In future I think I want to try to get to around 600 - 700 hp but I have not yet decided on the best route to that - I am sure this forum contains tonnes of info!

I need to balance between cost and benefit, as I don't have a suitcase of money under the bed, but I think that is part of the fun - it forces me to learn some stuff about my car as I choose the best path forwards :)

Anyway I'll stop there before this becomes a twelve-volume leather-bound set of books rather than an introductory "hello" :)

Hi and welcome |B
The 2JZ motor has strong internals so they may not need upgrading BUT do your research first before winding up the boost as you do not want it to go BANG.

Hi and welcome to TC forum.
Have a think about your power level you aiming for. If its a daily driver 600+ horsepower can get very tiring after a while.
Love the Supra though. UK cars are particularly sort after as I'm sure you know

Hi TCJBOLDIE, and thanks for the tip. Yes, for sure, I will research thoroughly, as along with the lack of funds for dealing with piston rods poking out of the bonnet :) I also, after contacting one tuning company, realised that they don't seem to like the "take a few thousand of my money and do what you want because I have no clue" approach - they want specifics! Actually though, I have a feeling I will enjoy becoming more mechanically-aware - maybe I'll buy a few tools and learn how to do some things for myself. Having browsed a few posts now I see that people really know how to enjoy their cars :)

Hi Aerial Andy944, Yes, I must admit, it was the fact it was a UK Supra that led me to look past the naff pillar gauges etc... A few years ago I had a Supra that had been imported new then most bits converted to UK spec by Toyota - ended up selling that a couple of years after I bought it, probably when Supras were at their lowest value - but ho hum live and learn... and now I have a better car anyway (after a few years of driving round in small cars.) I've never driven a more powerful car so now you have mentioned 600hp can be tiring, I will take on board what you say, as I don't want to lose too much of the comfort, but find the right balance. For example, I don't want to feel like I've got square wheels every time I drive over a shadow. And I prefer driving in straight lines rather than circles... And I prefer double-digit mpg rather than single-digit... I don't want the petrol gauge to turn into a secondary fan!

But in my head at least, I thought it would be fun to see if I could get the 0-60 much quicker.

Actually, truth be told, I am researching now to make a "big decision" - stick with my dream car for the long haul and spend on it partly to upgrade and partly to keep it bulletproof, or sell it (very reluctantly) if the money involved is astronomical. I think next step is thorough research then probably some professional advice from a specialist somewhere. I'm already learning loads of things from reading other posts in this forum :)

Hi TC, thanks for the warm welcome, much appreciated! I look forward to learning more and more. There are already some threads I need to post some congratulations to, for example the chap building "R2" from scratch - mind-boggling skills! I have a sneaky suspicion that I've stumbled into a very nice forum :)

Sorry - got muddled with who's who! I should say "Hi Obi-Waynne" !

Just my experience in driving other peoples big power cars. Great on a track but you have to concentrate so hard on public roads keeping all that power contained I found it tiring mentally and physically. I kept my R33 GTR at 400HP which was a nice sweet spot within the cars original limits and I feel the Supra would give a similar experience.

That sounds like a sensible way forwards. I think mine is somewhere around 380 at present, though that is an estimate from the dealer based on standard spec + Blitz dual SBC and HKS super dragger. (On that point, I'm slightly worried about having an exhaust in which I could smuggle small dogs - considering getting something a little less unruly at some point. Though I have the feeling it was installed only shortly before I bought the car, given its condition. I will have to see if there is a receipt for it.) I think my next step will be to take it to a local performance specialist to get it checked in terms of its mapping and settings. In any case, wherever I end up with it finally, it feels right to take small steps and thoroughly consider options.

Yeah my GTR came with a titanium exhaust which sounds great on paper but in reality made ya ears bleed at anything over 3000rpm. Soon changed to a heavier Nismo exhaust which was much more muted at low revs then a flap opened on full throttle if you wanted a bit of noise and a giggle.
