Hey mate, welcome along, nice choice of motor!
Quite a lot of people have done the engine transplant as a project, I agree that they should have done it as standard, as apparently they work great, reckon the mi16 engine probably works better though as the early one is pretty light.
Some have then supercharged it (low boost - to about 260bhp I think) which I imagine is some major fun in a 205!
My eventual plan (when money allows) is to get a black 106 s1 rallye (got a bit of a thing for the early ones and they are really light) and put the 1.6 16v 106 gti engine in and supercharge it (as well as obviously uprating suspension/brakes etc etc) wish I had the money now!

cheers Bonzo,
I was originally thinking mi route but thought the 306 was a stronger engine so I'm going with that! If u do a 106 supercharged the term go-kart comes to mind a very very fast one at that!

Heres hoping I find the money to do it! :)
If you do decide to do the gti-6 engine transplant I'd recommend joining up to www.306gti6.com forum (its free) as there are a few people on there having done it who have documented their progress in the project section.

yeah the gti-6 enigne is stronger and more resistant to oil sugre when cornering hard plus you can also use that lovely 6 speed box as well... not to metion that Quaife do an LSD for it....

I'd love a 306 gti-6 / rallye can't find good ones though...

Yeah it is tricky finding minters, think your best bet would be to look through the for sale section on the 306 forum for ones being sold by known members that can be vouched for.
Personally, if I were to buy another at any point I would wait for one that was being sold by the member 'mechanical_repairs' as he is a very highly rated mechanic that specialises in these cars and a lot of the forum members will take long trips to get their car to him if work needs doing!
He often buys 6's and rallyes, puts them in good order and sells them at quite reasonable prices. Good luck finding a goodun! :blink1:

i was told by some1 at pug-1-off that u can use the gearbox off a 1.6 gti 205 !!! that was my plan it also means i could have a smaller turning circle which is good:lol:
i noticed the oilsurge the other day actually i was going round a long corner and then looked down at the dash and the oil was gone lol
the possiblities are almost endless for the other add ons you make iswell i think thats y im attracted to this ;), hopefully i will be able to make it happen ( by me i mean me taking it to a specialist garage) can any1 recommend any?? i live in channel islands so i will have to get the boat over then drive !
