Can anyone offer an explanation as to why my car makes noticably less combustion noise on Shell Fuelsave unleaded than it does on any other fuel? Even V-Power is louder.

It's equally smooth on all fuels, basically because it's impossible for a straight six to be anything but smooth.

But definitely quieter on Shell's stuff.

That's strange. I'd have put it down to knock resistance and higer octanes but if V-power does the same it blows that theory out of the water.

I'm guessing that you're not talking about a tappet noise?

Is there a noticable power difference?

No, it's not tappet noise (it's got 24 of those buggers to rattle if it wanted to) nor mechanical noise. The engine is extremely refined, typically of a straight six.

It's simply combustion noise which seems noticeably lower on Shell's basic stuff and I am completely unable to explain it.

Power and torque are much the same to be honest, although it's a bit more eager on V-Power.
