HI there tabbra182 and welcome to TorqueCars nice to have you along. If this is your first engine swap I would keep it simple and stick with an escort engine. The 1.6 RS turbo,2000 RS, 2.0 Turbo and the 1.8 would give big power gains.

You will need to uprate the clutch and match the gearing to the new engine. Your best bet is to buy a donor car from a breakers yard and strip out the engine/gearbox and loom then sell the rest for spares.

cheers 4 tha advice lads iv found a bloke thats got a 1.6 rs turbo engine tuned to 200BHP!!!! so i think im gonna go 4 that if uv got eny more ad vice 4 me plz do tell, im willin to lern thanx 4 ya advice ppl :D

i will keep ya all up dated i wen to hav a look at the engine today i hav another queation tho i no ill hav 2 up grade the breaks but how much wil i get away with gruved an drilled dissks an the green stuff pads or will i hav 2 up rate the calipers as well???? and will i be able to use the cooling system off my 1.3 engine or up grade???

Upgrade the cooling system unelss they are the same size (depth as well and wide/tall)

I would get uprated brakes with calipers - buying a crashed doner will make this job a lot easier. It is the size of the disk and pad which helps braking rather than the pad material (although that comes into it). Check out pagid pads which are good for stopping.

The disk vents just keep it cooler so you can brake longer without fade. Grooves keep the pads in good shape and the drilling helps with cooling but both of the latter can mean earlier disk failure if they get too hot for too long.
