I have an L24 in my 1972 Datsun 240z but it appears to have worn rings AND I'll have to replace the valve guides and seats so it can run on unleaded gasoline (Im from the states).

Should I go through all of that, or get a new motor (RB25DET or SR20DET)?

Opinions are much appreciated.

I would say, chuck in the SR20DET from an S15 Silvia, it's a popular engine to use, will fit the engine bay of your car and is readily available (if you know the right people)

It will also give you a huge power advantage over the stock engine for half the cost of tuning the original to the same level of performance

I planned on keeping the engine and all the parts regardless (in the event I ever wanted to sell it, thats when "worth" comes into play in my eyes.)

Turns out, the car will run. I still may have bad rings, but the reason it wasnt starting and idle-ing is because (I assume) the inline fuel filter was not in its holder, keeping it vertical, or because of a wiring connection that came apart that I re-connected. So Im now thinking of replacing the valve seats and guides so i can run on unleaded gasoline.
