finally a new Fiesta RS Turbo owner :)

right everyone after the sale of the previous car fell through (less said the better) :wall:
i had a great bit of luck and dropped on this motor from a cracking guy from up cumbria :god:
its totally different spec wise to the white one i was going to get and i actually prefer that if im honest as its a lovely base to make a great car from and not ruin the oe looks/charm of it too much. :top:

its a 1990 car in red
totally standard engine wise apart from a receipt for some form of hybrid turbo
stainless system
lowered suspension
had a resto a few years ago and is in great shape nice and solid in all the usual areas.
also had an engine rebuild a few years ago

the car has not been on the road since 2014 but the current owner took the car for a pre mot on monday and it failed on the following

emissions too high
handbrake cable needs adjusting
spare wheel needs a tyre
one headlight not working
reverse light switch intermittent

and that was it so the plan is to give the car a real good full service including the following

oil and filter
ht leads and denso ik27 plugs
fuel filter
uprated frst fuel pump
coolant change
drive belt
cam belt and water pump kit
new set of wipers all round
new set of bulbs all round

the owner also informs me that the turbo will need a rebuild which is not a problem as it will go to my mate wilky for the said work and possibly a bit more of his magic work.

i also have my other mate who is a professional detailer booked in for the end of march to give the car a full paint correction detail and interior valet etc etc so the car will look spot on once done.

the plans are then to refit rebuilt turbo and then get the car an m.o.t. once this is done ill be calling msd for one of there set up sessions and if all well followed by there stage 3 conversion on the same day :)

looks wise with the car i dont really want to change anything apart from i think its crying out for the period 4" tailpipe on there :DD:

anyway enough babbling from me for now here are a few pics for you all

Finally got around to painting the floor in my garage its only taken me 3 years to do it

Pulled the car out the garage and couldnt resist a few pics, still looks as fresh as when t had the paint corrected last summer.

Had it covered up for a few days outside whilst the floor was double coated and give it a good 48 hours to harden off before putting the car back in there. I
t was nice to have the car running again and it sounded so healthy especially after the solid lifters being adjusted.
Even the wife come and said that sounds really good again now :) it was just a shame we couldnt of gone out for a drive but we will get there eventually once this lot blows over

and heres the results of the floor being sorted, i also did a few more little jobs in there sealing any areas that were letting water in and fitting a weather strip to the floor where the side door is. I am going to paint the walls in there and board/skim the ceiling at some point anything to reduce the dust levels and make it look better.

I really cant wait to get this upto my mate at gt motorsport have it datalogged and boost set a tad higher as safely as possible then it can be used hopefully this summer if we are outta lockdown

HI guys seems an absolute age since i updated this thread so im playing catch up a tad

June 6th
Finally got the car up to my mate at GT Motorsport on Weds this week.

I am now happy to say the car was set up and is now hitting a peak of 20psi tailing off to 18psi on the stage 2 t3, Also whilst there it was sent for an MOT and passed with flying colours yet again
:)

The stage 2 t3 is much better and far more lively than the stage 3 far more mid range etc, although i only got chance to properly hit boost once on my way home as i had to get back to pick my son up. All i will say is it felt hugely improved and i cant wait for when its dry to give it a real testing.

got a few pics not the best but better than nothing

and little man approves
:)
well in need of a haircut though haha

From yesterday
I have managed get out in the car 3 times since having it all set up properly etc, i can report that i absolutely love it and making the decision to drop the t3 down to stage 2 was the best thing i could of done,
this has totally made the car far better in every way and now running 20psi it doesnt half pick its feet up and fire you off down the road.

I have taken the car on drives around the peak district and cheshire more recently and its just amazing how many people cant take there eyes off the car it always seems to get a great reaction.

Im hoping to have the car out a fair few more times this year for sure.

I still have the full superpro bush kit to fit and have also purchased an escort turbo lsd so we can fit that into the box at some point.

a few pics

Got a few little things to update on, firstly ill be taking my car to pop it on the hub dyno at pips new place in northwich on Saturday 5th September, will be interesting to see what she comes out with my bum dyno says around 200-210

I also now have the wheels in motion with Harland sharp for a set of there brilliant roller rockers that my good mate matt has tried/tested with great results and these will be ordered on Monday once i get a shipping cost from them directly,

and last but not least i purchased one of these fantastic bits of kit that will be fitted pretty much as soon as it lands here.

Hoping to get the car out tomorrow for a little boosting with my lad as co pilot
:)

HI Andy I saw the end of a TV series called "Wheeler Dealers" and I thought that they had a car like your little red Ford and you may be able to track it down to see what they bought it for and what they did to sell it for a profit.

It is a show where they buy all makes and do them up to sell.

Hi mate yes that series originates from the UK it's been running for some time now. Also another good one check out is car s.o.s

Wheeler dealers are car monkeys. I wouldn't trust a car from them at all.

They short cut to fix and supposedly improve. To be honest. I pity anyone who has purchased a car from them.
They once has a Sierra Coswoth on the show and actually sold it to someone who actually knew about Cosworths. He mostly said that they ruined it. lol

Andy. I love your car. Everytime I see you post in this thread it makes me wish I still had mine.
Keep up the good work mate. |B

I see so many of those car restoration shows that have the philosophy of "just spray paint over a problem" or "as long as it starts and they can deliver it then that's fine".

Contrasting this to the love and care that goes into a project like yours @andy206 shows them up even more.

The shows mentioned above i view purely as a bit of car related entertainment on the box, you certainly wouldnt want to be taking any advice from them.

thank you for the kind words @obi_waynne really appreciate that :)

Just realised I hadn't updated this.

Went over to pip as planned and stuck the car on his dynapack hub Dyno.
It made 194bhp and 231 lbft at 17psi but we had to abort the run due to the car developing a fuel related problem which seems like a fuel pump issue.
Still hugely impressed with what it did especially on the torque side.

Anyway on my way back I had made my mind up its time to finally build the engine to a whole new spec which will see us at 300+bhp with low lag, boost by gear, traction control, als etc etc.

I already had quite a few bits that I had bought over the past couple of years to begin this which are as follows.

Simtek pro ECUSimpson over box exhaust manifold
Astra vxr injectors

I have since the Dyno day bought the following

Harland Sharp roller rockers
series one rs turbo inlet manifold
Audi TT throttle body (convert to dbw)
Fiesta Mk7 throttle pedal.
Larger fmic set up with already cut out front bumper to suit.
3 bar map sensor
Air temp sensor
Mondeo MK1 brake servo and master cylinder

I'm hanging fire on buying the forged pistons and rods as waiting on a couple of prices from people once that's cleared up I'll get them bought.

We already have the guy lined up to do the mods to inlet manifold etc and have the headwork/engine side of things all decided.

Turbo choice is decided but I am sworn to secrecy over what we are going for as we are pretty sure one has not been used yet on a cvh so it's going be interesting see what we can do.

Andy I had Eagle rods and they took everything I thru at them for 15 years and are still in the car now. I know that there are other big name rods out there but would recommend them given how they are still faultless
.
FYI I know first hand of a 4 cyl dragster that had Eagles and it broke them when the motor was putting out 900hp

haven't updated this in a good while.

Not a great deal to update on but i have purchased a set of 15" Compomotive RL7s which i believe to be ultra rare and as far as we can see no other fiesta turbo runs them.

My car was collected last weekend by my good mate Mat of OCD Productions and is now bac at his place having a few bits and bobs done.

Harland sharp roller rockers ready to fit today (been soaking in 30 grade oil last couple of days), couldn't of timed this job any better as one of the original rockers had decided to give up thus making the car run on 3 cylinders. Also to be fitted is a Walbro GST400 fuel pump this will replace what's already in there and be future proof for when we go for the big 300+ low lag build

Hi mate thanks for that, i had Eagle rods in an old motor bac in 2007-8 as you say they are absolutely fantastic and certainly got some abuse i fact the following owner had my engine to put into a track motor

Another piece of the puzzle was added on Thursday

I have now purchased a CTS stage 2 gearbox including quaife diff . This has just had new seals fitted and comes with vibratechnics mounts :)

Got it for a great price so this will be going on the car once in my possession.

Andy the beast looks great and will be even better with that LSD especially on slippery surfaces and punching out of uphill corners |B

Head is now all sorted and looking spot on. Top work from AL Developments as always.

Looking forward to getting this back on and some boost up it soon.

Had the car set up yesterday at mikeanics in Congleton. As always a top service.

The car made 218bhp and 200lbft at just 15psi.

Absolutely made up with this and it feels a hell of alot different from what it did before the set up.

Just for reference I had it on another Dyno before headwork/roller rockers and it made 194bhp but was running very lean.

Loved the drive home yesterday plenty of poke and the new gearbox is certainly helping get the power down.

Good to hear that it's running strong and the AFR's have been sorted as the last thing one wants especially in a turbo car is lean AFR's as that usually ends up in tears with a damaged piston and a rebuild and that's why I always told my tuner that I wasn't after the highest possible HP reading but wanted to be able to run it @ WOT on track days whatever the weather and temperatures for longevity and peace of mind.

I always went to the same tuner and dyno. Different workshops with the same equipment often have different dyno power output results.

yes its absolutely bang on now, very lively motor.

With regards to the dyno i forgot to mention the old run was at 17psi on a dynapack hub dyno, this was done on what is known locally as a rather conservative set of rollers.
For reference a couple of pals escort turbos made 186 & 197 respectively and they were both expecting 200+

Im not one to get too hung up on the whole rr power figures but my backside dyno 100% knows a 210+ oldschool turbo hot hatch when i feel/drive one :)

Hub dynos are the most accurate as there is no tyre slipping on a roller dyno and back to back testing the hub one will read slightly higher all things being equal.

There are a few reports of higher powered cars of the same make being spanked @ the drags by lower powered cars.

It comes down to how the power is delivered OR power under the curve on a dyno sheet.

Andy that clearly demonstrates how the figures can be manipulated as well as how a genuine lower powered car can be faster than one tuned by a dodgy workshop.

Exactly the beauty of where I went to is none of the stuff on the car was his software, products etc.
It was just a set up of fuel pressure, cam timing Etc etc and a run up on the rollers to see what we had.

So absolutely no need to manipulate anything as it would be of no benefit to them or anyone really.

Had another delivery last week.

An absolute vital couple of bits for the big engine build coming over winter 2022.

All we need now is a custom loom for the simtek ECU and we're ready to go.

I think its now time to reveal what turbo we are going for on my new engine build for winter 2021/22.

iv gone for a Holset He221w which looking at all the data etc is going to be perfect for the cvh and as far as i can see we might be the first cvh with one fitted?

Purchased this little beauty last year crazy how cheap they are to buy especially when you consider the quality and durability of them.

360bhp rated turbo with fast spool should work well once we have the simtek in place and set the boost by gear and traction control etc.

Not really a huge deal to update on, The car was in for its MOT the other week which again it passed without a single advisory
icon_smile.gif

Ended up fitting a new sump and this has now solved the constant oil leak we had with the old one, also my alternator decided to give up on the day I brought the car back from the testing station so a new one has been bought and will be chucking it on along with a new belt next weekend.
its quite funny as the car had started to run really lean at idle which just come outta nowhere, then when the alternator died it all made more sense.

A few pics my pal sent me from his garage when it was there waiting go for MOT, i will be fitting the proper lead separator and bracket back on, the zip tie was only a temp fix
