Fiat Punto grande 1.3 diesel issue

4 or 5 times its refused to start, usually when hot, no dashboard lights.

Breakdown today diagnosed the diesel pump, my lad was there and sent me this...

I read some have a in-tank fuel pump, any ideas?

it cranks over and will start and run after a whiff of easy start

Check the fuel filter is not blocked for starters.

Diesel fuel runs at very high pressures so the pump is usually near the engine where the injectors need the pressure.

is it a common rail high pressure?

breakdown said diesel was coming through filter

a few weeks ago the "water in fuel" light came on then went off

One outside thought then is it the injectors, have they been tested?

If the breakdown guy diagnosed the fuel pump and the filter is not clogged it makes sense to change the fuel pump.
