If you had the space and money, what would be the one piece of garage equipment you would love to have in your garage?

Me? I would love a spray booth.

A spray booth would be good but I'd really like a rolling road and full remapping/diagnostic tools so I can play with my cars setup myself!

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece equipment would you really like in your garage?

A pit and a hoist.

And carpet.

And if someone could keep it tidy that'd be great.

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece equipment would you really like in your garage?

Oh and a Ferrari engine and Ferrari bodyshell and Ferrari Chassis.

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece equipment would you really like in your garage?

A four poster has got to be the ultimate shirley!? That's what I'd want anyway, and a garage big enough to actually have one.

But that is more than one!

But that is more than one!

you have to give a little leway!

cause your spray booth wouldnt be much kop without extraction, compressor, spray equipment and paint:amuse:

im going with a compressor and all relevent air tools

Spray booths come with extraction units and I have the spray equipment :)

It is amazing what you can find to do with a compressor once you have a decent one :)

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

a MIG welder, but first the Garage, if not the MIG then a Plasma Cutter would be awesome

2 post ramp for me. Cars i work on are generally too low for 4 posters without raising them up.

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

Has to be a proper ramp - does a higher garage roof count as two ?

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

Two poster ramp for me, more access than a four poster. Failing that I'd have Edd China in my garage. :amuse:

 He's great! can turn his hand to just about anything on any car!

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

Don't you mean he can bodge just about any car?

That's a bit harsh isn't it? I would trust him more so than any so called mechanic at any given dealership. I have seen my fair share of bodged jobs from trained mechanics. Hence why I do not trust garages and do 99% of my own work wherever possible. Not saying all mechanics are like this but the bad ones tend to tar the good ones with the same brush I'm afraid. I have had run-ins with a few and had to educate them. Being a time-served toolmaker and degree qualified engineer is not the best person to be ripping off when you have to use a dealer for specialist work. But that's another story! Sorry to go off topic.

Anyway there is a difference between bodging and working to a budget :blink1:

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

Did you ever see the Cosworth they had on?
That was one that was just well bodged together.
An enthusiast ended up buying it and wasn't happy with the work they'd done.
I'll try an find where I read about it.

Yea I remember the Cosworth and it was a dog to start with. Never heard the story of what happened after though. They did alot of work on it I recall, didn't they swap over the interior and also headwork and bumper respray? Probably needed more tbh and neglected to mention it. Mike Brewer is not exactly a saint though is he, I wouldn't buy a used car off him!

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

No your right I wouldn't touch a car off him.
Can't remember exactly but the new owner wasn't happy and ended spending loads to put it right.

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

I read somewhere that they use members of the film crew to act as potential buyers for their cars, is that true?

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

i,d have a four post ramp, fully kitted out by snapon, oooh and a garage big enough for it all.

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

Well this is an old thread but one that has caught my eye so...

Dream machine would have to be a C&C miller. Would allow me to design parts in solid works and just machine them. If there were any problems then all I would need to do is redesign, smelt down the old in my forge and recraft. I would actually like to save for said machine as well >.> will have to see what the future holds.

Dakry.

I take you mean a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) mill? :)

I bought one last year, second hand, for £850. Still learning about it. If you get one, make sure you can use it manually as trying to mill without a program using the jogging feature is a pain. I am beginning to think that I may convert it back to manual and sell the computer controls as the time taken to draw and program isn't worth the effort, apart from the fun side.

If you ever get a Mill, get the biggest you can afford as rigidity is everything and you soon want to make something that won't quite fit (I know, already been there). A big, old British machine will beat a new Asian machine every time.

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

All of the above

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

As here in NZ you have to have a special permit for a pit , I would like a 2 post hoist and as other have more than 1 a Mig welder and " Chip Fooses " team for a couple of weeks

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

Thanks for the advice and feedback OG. I didn't honestly realise that they would be around that price. I was expecting (and have only really seen) them to be up in the 10's of thousands knocking around. Though I see what you mean by wanting to make bigger parts within a short time XD Dreams eh? And if I had it, it would be instantly bolted to the floor with many thunderscrews.

Re: Fantasy Island Time - What piece of equipment would you really like in your garag

I'd really like a rolling road.

Yes that is true, a classic dealer friend of mine( www.eclecticcars.co.uk ) somehow ended up with the 944 turbo, reckoned it was a shocking bodge, He was telling me all the punters are members of the film crew and all cars go to the same dealer to be punted out.

My dream garage would have a large open fire|BBQ. A large fridge, Full tea making facilities, my entire collection of PPC magazines . a really comfortable 3 piece suite , a Good Radio , full on WI-FI and Wife exclusion Zone.
