What accidents have you had? How would you say you learnt from it?

Did it change your driving style in any way and how long did it take to get back into your bad old habits?

one when i was around 6 - someone came flying out of a junction and hit the side of mums car. didnt affect me much as i got a ride in a wagon .
slipped on wet diesel or something on approach to a roundabout, went straight over the top of it in the civic, was a bit shaken up at the time but recovered quickly. now take my time on approach. was told by everyone it was my fault as was young and going to fast. great thing was couple of days later a 40 tonner done the exact same but took out the road lights

and had someone run into the back of me, thankfully it was slow speed and did not damage to me did however split his nice shiney bumper

After my accident I've calmed down a lot, but also lost faith in my brakes so I tend to brake earlier than I used to. Roll on EP3 set up!

my first driving lesson i span in the snow doing 45 mph, went off the road and busted up the back end of my instructors car.

obviously ive come a long way since then but i take a lot more care when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Don't expect other people to follow the rules of the road, and always make eye contact if you are going to be in conflict (i.e. your paths will cross at a junction rather than the Vietnam!)

My friend span his corsa into a motorway barrier around 55mph. Car needless to say was a write off. Highway agency told us we were lucky to walk away. Taught me to drive carefully without pushing myself or my car(except on tracks). The phrase dont run before you can walk comes to mind.

The adrenalyn rush you get has no comparrison :(

1 Minor shunt which was the other day due to some fool. Hasn't changed me one bit. I have been in a bad accident with someone else driving but that didn't change me either. I've also seen some bad accidents happen to which didn't involve me. But still didn't change the way I drive.

Stopped braking for animals after ditching at 60mph with a 180 skid.

Took to easing off when approaching the top of a hill after aquaplaning into the rear end of a car waiting to turn at a junction.

All other incidents have been third-party faults.

in the snow came off on a corner doing about 40mph, luckily the snow was so deep that it just bulked up in front of the car so no dammage - just 20mins of digging to get it back out. apart from this not much - touch wood.
Just learnt not to drive a front wheel drive car to enthusiastically in the snow

first day of independent driving with friend, was a bit nervous and forgot to mind for other car whilst reversing from parking space
hit the car parked on my left
i now am more vigilant in reversing

Is that the damage the Freelander caused?

Yup, both cars where immaculate until Dad went through his rear bumper at 70 (the porche has stopped stationary on the slip road).

They where the only two cars where involved (my dad in his freelander, and that guy in his porche).

WOAH WITH THE IMAGE SIZE!!

There is a reason I didn't post it directly!!

FreeLander needs a new bumper, wing, fog light, 2 parking sensors, number plate & headlight.

Lost control of my old Rover 45 doing 40. Front wheels lost grip and the front end drifted right. Being a n00b driver I've gone full lock left trying to straighten the car up. All of a sudden the car grabbed grip, span round left, went backward over an island and into a lampost. Only had third party fire and theft at the time, so couldn't even claim. Had to scrap a car I'd paid £2grand for five months earlier for £35. as an 02 plate Rover 45 ixs. Replaced it with an M reg 1.4 Escort and now a 2.0 Daewoo N reg. Sh*te.

Some cars seem to lend themselves to accidents. 2 mates of mine with Rover 200's lost the back on a fairly straight road due to a bump in the road.

How long did it take you to get back behind the wheel then JOK3R?

I wrote off my sister's 1986 Toyota Carolla two weeks after I got my license. I was driving on gravel road a bit too quick and being a front wheel drive when I lost traction there wasn't much I could do with my limited skills. End result was me rolled down a bank with a cut finger and a destroyed car. It took me a few weeks before I was confident to drive on gravel again but now I'm completely over it.
