escort rs speedo problem

I'm new to this site, but have an Escort RS Turbo 1986 with an unworking speedo, the petrol gauge doesn't work either, dunno if this is linked?? Any ideas what could be up with it? Some guy told me it was the relay??

It's a common fault on old fords. Had the same problem on my old MK4 escort a few years back. it was just easier to get a new set of clocks only cost £40 from a scrappy

Relay is a good option as would be a fuse, the wiring on RS Turbos / Fords in general of that age is shocking, how many times have you been behind an Escort with it's indicator flashing, with the brake light flashing too, fog lights coming on, it's like a disco!

If you are competent with wiring, i would set about tidying as much of it up as you can to save water getting in there, also go down Halfords, buy some insualtion tape and have a good session cleaning and wrapping !
