Have seen an advert for one of these for sale at GBP9500 which seems like a bargain and claims to be 100% original, no mods. Now presuming that all is in order and it hasnt been smashed/crashed/stolen etc..... i would be very tempted to buy this as an investment - just for driving on summer days etc...

Does anyone think this would be a good investment?

there cant be many cars out there that are 10 years or more old and still hold half there original price from new can there.
they where 22,000 new iirc. not bad.

It will appreciate slowly the fewer unmolested cars about the more they will be worth. An anniversary helps with value too. But it will take time look at Mini's their values have been climbing steadily good ones are fetching really good money now.

Keep it in top condition and it should slowly appreciate. I'd vote that you go for it. Check the full history though and get the car data check done (HDI is offering a few free ones to TorqueCars members - PM him to see if he has any left.)

Will it appreciate or just hold its value? Its not really an investment if it just holds its value.

Actually, in recent times it is:
investing in the stock market can net you some massive losses yet this is viewed as an investment (60% loss in 2008 for myself).
Houses are viewed as an investment, yet it seems that if someone bought during 2007/2008 they could well be in negative equity.

before the economic troubles these cars were going for around gbp15k for a decent one, so i think it really could be a good investment.

am trying to get hold of the seller to keep it until am back in October so i can fully check it out, the garage is prepared (dehumidifier etc...) but, unlike how i bought my house, i want to check it out firsthand before committing.

the only problem i could see is that i would be tempted to drive it all the time, i'm not sure i have the willpower to wait until only good weather etc...

can understand where your coming from lol
like having a new toy that you cant play with, come on david, show us your willpower lol !!!!! ;);)

Where is it being sold? I'll have a look! lol

It sounds too good to be true. Id take the number plate details and do a HPI check on it. Or, just call ford and they will tell you exactly what it is. Where ever you found it, it cant be very well publisised as it would have gone buy now. Buy it quick (if it is the real deal) and put it on Auto trader for £18000. Dry store until sold. Or keep it like you said and see what they are going for in 10 years time.
