Iv bought a hks air filter,it wasnt cheap. Now Im wondering some of these kits have pipes on them,do I need this sort of pipe with my filter or do I just stick it on,also one of my mates used to have a cold air feed coming from the bottom bumper of his car, what is that and where does it connect to?Im just a bit confused, all iv got is the air filter,i wanna know what else I need

If you have a pipe and get it as close to the bumper or behind the headlight, or even if like a scooby you ca hide the air filter inside the wing. You need as much cold air going to the filter as possible because if you get heat soak from the warm engine bay air, it will more than likely take power away.

The best filters are either performance panel filter with a modded intake or a sealed cone filter like a K&N Typhoon or a BMC carbon one, these will give you the flexible pipe to run to the front bumper which gives you the best cold air. Dont just stick the filter on unless it's away from the engine ;)

is your new filter a panel or cone/ mushroom shaped???

if panel, then you could run a cold air feed to your existing airbox

if the other type (which i assume it is) - then it would be benificial to run a cold air feed from your filter - (which ideally should be as close to the wing as you can - away from the engine) - to either the wing / bumper or behind the headlight

Hope this helps a bit

Thanks for the reply guys but im still confused,do you have a pic of what you mean and what extra parts do I need, its the mushroom hks air filter

Its the second one iv got the mushroom one with the green one. But do I need some sort of pipe to connect it to the engine or something?

just to bump this thread, can anyone reccomend which pipe to actually buy, like show me a link on ebya for my car and also have a look at my other thread, how do I install this?

Were you breast fed untill you were 15 years of age or something?

What more information do you want? With car tuning/upgrading, there is a certain amount that you as the owner/upgrader must do your self. Maybe a bit of homework wouldn't go a miss.

Lets sliver spoon feed you.

1 - Find your air box
2 - Find the pipe that goes from your engine into your airbox
3 - Measure it (take off the air box, get a tape measure (or a ruler) and measure the thickness off the pipe)
4 - Measure how much space you have untill you get to a clear part of your engine compartmet bay where you want your mushroom to be located.
5 - Type in lenght into one of the many web sites provided to you
6 - Buy it
7 - Install it
8 - Job done. Go have a cup of tea, read the paper and watch the news.

Simples

Show a little kindness BBJ we can't all be as astute as you! T9

Thanks for the info but I dont know anything about cars, now if you needed something doing to your laptop such as installing a screen you would probably be stuck as well if youv never done it before thats why I need the step by step instructions. Il need to find where the airbox is or a video on youtube or maybe just pay someone to do it

:lol: Im a Network and IT specialist! lol :lol: But I know where your comming from ;)

It might be worth having a look at some of the stickies on here and read up on how different parts work. Im no major expert on cars, but since owning my Evo, I have read up on how diferent parts of the engine work.

I know how a dump works, I know what the cams do, what dial in pullies are, how a turbo works, the importance of correct exhaust release ect ect. But to learn you have to have an interest in the subject or you won't take anything in.

Do you know why you are changing the intake??

There is pleanty of info on this site, explaining how most parts of the car works. I might get the old paint out and have a play about for you and circle your air box for you and a good place to put your new filter if you like ;)

;)

That would be sorted, thing is I thought this was a 5 min job and no I dont know why I need the intake, something to do with cold air more oxygen therefore faster car,air filter same thing. I do want it doing in the next cople weeks, been told i can get upto 15bhp

you won't get up to 15bhp just from doing an induction kit and cold air feed - to get that kind of figure, you would have to combine it with an exhaust upgrade

And if you want the induction and exhaust to work well you probably need to do some head work, although I doubt there's much of a restriction to come out of a Honda cylinder head - perhaps just a polish rather than a port and polish!

...And then if there's more air going through you need to make sure the ECU can cope with the extra fuel requirement...

...And so on...
