Decoding the ecu

Hey guys help me iam kind of stuck here what is the purpose of decoding the ecu.i have just done an engine swap but my new engine wont run it fires then cut off.the immobiliser light is flashing.i have put a new ignition hub and ecu which come with the engine but is not decoded.will decoding this ecu sort my problem

what cars it on ?
the code on the key must match the code on the immobiliser ( On the mk 4 platform i think the immobiliser was built into the dash clocks AND the ECU ) if not it will cut out.

think they guy doing the swap had a lot of issues with the immobier
