Dealer discounts and haggling.

What sort of discounts do you expect to be able to haggle to from a car dealer?

Or do you just pay the sticker price? I know some people prefer to negotiate optional extras and upgrade parts or include free service/mot deals.

What is the best deal you've got from a dealer? Or do you always buy privately?

Any tips for haggling?

I did well with the Primera in 97. £12,995 for the 2.0i SLX Auto.

They (Evans Halshaw Nissan, High Wycombe) flung in 3 free services (9000 mile intervals), year's road tax, full tank of fuel & footwell mats.

It was a bit tight on spec but did have standard ABS, AC & alarm which was not the norm in that era.

Totally unburstable car though, nothing went wrong at all. I swapped it in 2005 and still regret doing so.

I haggle all the time, except at a supermarket. I get discounts most of time, maybe only 50p, but it makes my day lol
