coupe 2.0 8v gearbox help please

hi all, my mates gearbox has gone and he is trying to source a new one but no luck yet. what we want to know is, are the renault gearboxs interchangeable, i.e could we put a 2.0 16v gearbox straight onto his 8v etc,
