Co-op ordered to make car insurance quotes clearer

The cheaper policies are full of terrible clauses, just a few I've spotted.

£200 excess for glass replacement
YOU MUST USE OUR APPROVED REPAIRER OR FORFEIT A COURTESY CAR AND PAY DOUBLE THE EXCESS - from an insurer who uses really cheap repair centres and has loads of complaints about thier work locally!
£500 theft excess

I never buy the cheapest, usually after reading the small print I end up spending £50-£75 more.

Using a broker gives you additional protection as they have to weed out all of these unfair clauses from what they recommend. That is why going direct is usually cheaper, they can get away with providing worse cover that a broker would just not have sold.
