clio evo swap

hey and welcome to torquecars mate.

do you mean mitshi evo4 engine ? if so good luck with the swap. its going to take alot to get it to work. and then youve got the strengthening of the chasis to do

hi mate yes evo 4 engine wats it like doing the swap i seen one on the site b4 done. wats the cost if u no plz .

havent got a clue mate but i wouldnt be saying cheap. your looking at a full wiring harness, engine mounts, gearbox and diff if your keeping front wheel drive if not the new floor pan for the propshaft along with custom propshaft and drive shafts, rear axle.
where on the site did you see that? as ive never seen it

ok mate. so wat welder do i need and wat do i do when i get the clio. is it best to strip it down then buy the evo 4 engine.

swaps none most stuff other than general servicing is out of my league. Have managed to rip an engine out but never had to put one in

couldnt tell you where to start mate as i think this would be more a job for a specialist. its not just a case of old one out and new one in plug everything back in and away we go like you might have found by swaping from 1 clio engine to another bigger one

are you wanting to use this as a daily driver ? if so have you informed you insurance company to get a quote of what its going to be after have the swap done. i know prince phoned his insurance about wanting to swap to another honda engine in his civic and his current insurance didn't want to know. but managed to quotes from others

yes ur right mate am gona drive it every day but not gona say nothing to insurance, wat abt the gear box does it have to be 4wd. wat if i want 2wd tranny running. and wats the power gona be as like.

mmm not informing the insurance would be unlawful. so lets hope if you do it you dont need to make a claim. lets say you crash and write off another car. insurance man comes out to have a look at the car and sees a mitsi engine in there your insurance is invalid, so have broken the law by driving without insurance. Now you have to pay for the damages to the other owners car and any other compensation claims such as whiplash etc so i would advise informing them. YES it is going to put your insurance up something silly but id rather have a high premium rather than have to pay out a fortune, declarer myself bankrupt and the the possibility of a nice spell at her majesty housing.
To put it another way if you cant afford the insurance you shouldnt be driving it

going to take a guess at the power. from around 60bhp (1.2 clio) to the evo engine at around 260bhp in stock
gearbox - the reault one isnt going to fit and even if it did its nt going to handle the torque, along with the rest of the car without alot of bracing. you could get a custom one made up for FWD only or you could try welding the diff in the evos to keep the power going to the front. Dont know how well that would work

yes am gona look abt for the insurance like adrian fluxs . em dont no reli garage says fto gear box will fit 2wd. do u no which welder ill need mate. and the price of one. plz.

depends if your using arc or gas welding both have god and bad points.
decent welder your looking at couple of hundred if your after one that can do both
then youve got the argon bottles again they depend on what size you get cant give you prices on them.

have you ever done any welding before ?
if not get yourself on a course theres more to it than just running along the top of the metal

have a look at mahine mart for prices

What age are you mate ? thinking that trying to get insurance for this is going to be nigh n impossible unless your over 25.
im currently pay £640 for my bora with my airbox mod declared and thats at 24 with 3 years NCB and 5 years driving

i never done welding b4 . wat will u say something to do the job cheap. i got a mazda mx 3 v6 now and am 21 paying 1200 third party f and t. 1 years ncb.

god no a decent welder will charge a lot for a good job. if youve never done it before its easy to make bad welds. in other words they look good but dont go far enough into the metal so arnt as strong as they should be. something i see a lot of at work with the apprentice fitters they weld it they an hour later it breaks again a good fitter comes along and it can last for weeks

if your insurance company will give you a plan. they are going to LOVE you.

your going to be paying for there bubbly in there meetings for a long time.

for the reson. it will prolly be a lot more than if you just got a evo 4 an insured it.

the cilo has no abs, pas, does not handle as good. is a lot less safe.

stopping distances are a lot more. also it will be after market so if you crash it they will prolly say they will replace with factory parts not aftermarket.

i do not condone driving without insurance at all.

tbh i would rather get a evo 4, it would prolly cost less than getting all the stuff an converting to 4wd.

at least 7 grand to get a focus 4wd that includes all the bits an bobs and the fabricating and welding.

as paul said, lots of money on your half if you crash plus there is a possability of spending a while with her maj's housing

my insurance is 1300 for a clio 1.9D clio but i did the pass plus it saved me 800 quid so look into that and im only 17 so it aint bad

who's that with m8 cos im payin silly money 4 a 1.3 civic ( im 17 also) am definatley going to do pass plus shortly but i've got a qoute for that and its still not much help

i got a quote for doing my pass plus and it want going to cover the amount spend on the extra lessons however the wife did do hers and she got 1 years NCB for it (25% saving).
a bit off topic

Few questions...

Are you staying 4wd? or wanting to go FWD?

have u done an engine swap before? from what i can see you havent.

Why the evo engine? there nothing special.

Welding, not as easy as it looks. There is an art to it.

your going to need some serious strength adding to the chasis. New front legs capable of taking the power. 4wd, new floor plan complete to allow the diff to go to the back wheels.

Whats your budget on this, if tis been done im sure there should be a guide. Although if you have no experience, dont do it. You wont get the car running again!

am wanting the evo swap coz i seen it done b4 on this site forgot the name. and i think it be a good sleeper. no i never done swaps but good with wiring. and i got lads for welding, but i need the cost and time is u no mate can u help .

might sound a good sleeper but there is more work than you think with it...

Why not get a volvo engine, 1.8 turbo, and tune it. They fit in with a bit of welding, and that would be hell of a sleeper! no matter what engine u put in a clio if its 200+ turbo, its goig to beet a lot of cars in the right hands.

I personally wouldnt touch putting an evo engine in, ure going to rip it to pieces. Do something sensible, and easier and you will get far better results.

consider putting a 306 gti6 ingine in with a super charger conversion capable of 350bhp to 400bhp (and this is prooven)

yes mate gd idea wats the volvo model engine and wats the price for the lot . wat do i need for the swap. and wat do i keep on the clio .

hi mate wats the cost of the job done with everthing abt. and wat will i need to do it. and the time in finishing it all of.
