BMW are to my knowledge the first car maker to produce Carbon fibre wheels for it's cars. These are made from waste carbon fibre materials for the i production line.
This should improve handling and fuel efficiency. The carbon fibre wheels are also easier to repair from kerbside scuffs than alloys with the right resins so this could actually be a big win all round.
