I wrote an article some years ago predicting the use of carbon fibre in production cars and wondered why it hadn't already been picked up and used. The insight into the carbon fibre industry is an interesting one and it make sense that manufacturers have been a bit reluctant to fully commit.

The new RS3 has carbon fibre panels on the front of the car.
 
Lighter and stiffer cars is a good thing, it's a shame that aircraft makers get the first call on orders for carbon fibre though.

Is carbon fibre more eco friendly to produce than steel?
