Hi all,

The previous owner of my current car (VW MK4) had a dog (lots of dog scratches on tailgate and bumber), and it seems that she used to open the doors with keys in her hand. So a lot of key scratches underneath the door handles. there is a coin size spot on teh bonnet where the metallic paint is peeling. a very small dent on the roof, smaller then a 5 pence.

Now I want these removed. I looked at professional scratch removals (with specific techniques etc... etc... where there is no need to repaint the whole panel blah blah), and all of them almost quote me for a respray. Example, (am I allowed to sya name ??) Ding Master in which specialized in these techniques quote around 2000 pounds. On their website not just them and other so called scratrch removal specialists) they show scratches much mych mych worse than mine which they claim they can remove. Almost all of them quote me for resprays.

They are not that bad. none of the scratches show the primer underneath. The colour is Indigo blue and the scratches are light blue.

I feel companies who claim those wonderful techniques are not really telling the truth and the websites are misleading.

I can't find a garage (in swindon) which can help. Do you knwo of any that can be trusted? what is your experience?

Thanks (OK back to work :cheesy:).

Try some TCUT and see how you get on . There is a thick clearcoat on the VW cars and I rekon that the skratches are in the clearcoat.

I think you'll be surprised how much you can get out with some cutting polish. If it is really bad then use a really fine grit of wet and dry. If you will have to paint it anyway it is certainly worth having a go at it yourself.

Maguires Clay Bar is apparently very good for removing scratches, scuffs and sap from the car's exterior... I haven't yet used the product myself (but will be at the weekend and will post the results!). However, a mate (big petrol head) recommended the product and claimed it gave his 94 plate BMW a showroom finnish!!!!

I'd look forward to seeing the results from that. I've been tempted by the clay bars but I didn't realise they can help with scratch removal.

yeah i thought the claybars just removed the dug in dirt.

lets us know how you get on with it. i have a couple of scratches on the bonnet which look like they could just be in the clearcoat and polish doesnt seem to remove them

Great. I'll chekck out the clay bar but I'll wait for your results first. That will really help me. It is the only thing that is not fixed on my car

Sorry to let you down lads but the weather doesn't look too great! So it will probably be next weekend... Would do it in the week but just get no time! Work Work Work! Fun Fun Fun! Sorry again and I'll get on it as soon as mother nature gives me the chance!

Once again sunny old England has rained on my parade! Never get time in the week either cos of work, so I only get a small window of opportunity :-x ... SUPPOSED TO BE AUGUST FFS!!!! Sorry to dissapoint again lads but I'll jump on it as soon as I can!

lol..... It sure does! Got something called Maguires Scratch-X today so I'll give that a whirl aswel...... I think it's more heavy duty than the bar! We'l soon see..... hopefully!!!

I look forward to seeing your results/reviews. (Your over 10 posts so you can now upload pictures!)
