Help is needed I have just had a service on my accord and I have been told that I need to have the disc changed Ok no problems. But I have already had them changed only 2 years ago, but I had major problems with disc warping. I the end I had the disc's skimmed. I have read that I need to fit performance disc to stop this, is this the case and is there any one in the west midlands that can fit them.

discs should last longer than 2 years with my civic i was going through brake pads every year but only changed the discs once in the 4 years, and that was using cheap discs (think they cost around £20 each).
discs usually warp from being heat up and cooled to harsley before they have got used to the heat. thats why it says to take it easy for the 1st couple of hundred miles.

by switching to performance discs your going to go through brakepads quicker as the surface of the disc is normally dimpled (drilled right through on some) or grooved.

Thanks for the info may be I am a heavy on the brakes. but most of the last years has been motorway driving. so to wear disc's in two years tell's I have another problem some where.

You can't gauge appropriate wear on a time scale. How many miles did you cover in those two years ? What type of driving was it, fast with lots of heavy braking ? See where i'm coming from ?
Are your calipers in good condition, as in are they causing the pads to bind on the discs ? Jack the car up and the wheels should spin reasonably freely with minimal drag when the brakes are off. If there is resistance it's possible that the pistons are not retracting properly in the calipers hence causing premature wear, this will also cause excess heat to the discs/pads and have an adverse effect of braking efficiency.
Cheap or low quality brakes are total false economy, they are the only thing that keep you alive. If you can't stop, the game is over !
There are many reasons why brakes will wear quickly but to give a realistic answer to a question, a question has to be put with all of the facts. :)

I have just done I quick calculatation The front disc brakes changed in late 2004 and Rear in early 2005 in that time I have done 56,000 Miles. So in the hard light of it 56,000 miles on a set of disc is not really that bad. However how do I make sure that I get good quality parts and not cheap items and is there a Honda specialist in the birmingham area.

Thanks for all you help.

I need to change my front pads on my Accord - any idea of how much the likes of Kwik-Fit would charge, as I haven't the time to do it myself? (lazy, I know)

It's just 2 pins and a clip plus taking off the wheel

I'd prefer to use a local garage than a big chain. You'll end up needing 4 new tires, a clutch and a gearbox otherwise  (Every time I went to a big chain they told me I needed more stuff doing that was necessary. A second opinion usually said I had plenty of miles left!)

Quick fit
£200 for the pads
£500 for labour
£400 for tyres
£600 for suspension
£2.99 for the air freshner

better sticking to a local garage who will be happy for the work rather than the ones who can advertise that they do anything and everything.

should only take you around an hour to do both sides

Thank you guys - and you were proved right. Quotes: Kwit-Fit £75. Local garage £40. Job done in an hour, excellent service. Thanks again.
