Bought a used van, weird wheel choice

Is it safe for a family van to have low profile rims/tires?

So I bought a Chrysler Town and country 05 from a guy and apparently he had taken the wheels off and put on low profile tires. My question is, would it be safe to drive on them or should I try to get a set of OEM wheels and rims for it? I was told by a buddy that a van should never have low profiles tires like that and that it wasn't safe. Any opinions/comments?

As long as the tyres are of a suitable size for the rim it should be fine. Low profile tyres give more cornering grip, better road feel but more noise and harsher ride.

If you load the van up to the full weight capacity and the new tyres are not designed to handle that weight then you have a problem. I think this is probably what your friend was thinking of.

Have you told your insurance that the van is modified from the standard spec? This can cause issues if you make a claim and they didn't know about a modification.
