Do you think that full bodykits on cars are going out of fashion or are we going to hit new peaks?

Are bodykits ever about performance or just a style mod?

yea i noticed they are going out of fashion too....they certanly are used just for styling(maybe some spoilers are exeption),couse in order to bodykits make a difrence u gotta be a profesional...and again the wont make big diference...lowering the car i 1000 times easyer, less expencive, and gives u much more performance...
for me just lowering the car with a bodykit that doesnt stand much from stock is enought....that era of huge wide bodykits is definetly gonne...

I think they went out of fashion a long time ago tbh. I think they look good when done properly and can help performance if done properly as well, however most are not done properly are generally found on small engined cars to just 'look sick init'.

I think they could come back into fashion one day though.

Modding is Becoming So PLAIN!!!

Good Point About BodyKits, You Can make your Car Unique and different from Others.

But Now 70% Of People will just put Alloys on, Bore Exhaust and Lower it and leave it the way it is, and it's becoming that Common cars are coming out with nice big alloys and been lowered so all you have to do is get a sports exhaust for extra Noise.

At the Local Car park, A Stunning 1969 Mustang was there, Everyone was giving it alot of Attention, then couple Corsa's And Saxo's come in thinking they are the dogs Bullocks, with their Alloys and Exhaust, and with the look of their faces, they auctally thought they have nicer cars.

Maybe it's down to taste at the end of the Day, Going to stop down as if I keep on typing, I'm just going to end up arguing with myself :p

in some places look closer, youll see subtle changes, for instance on mine
led side markers
smoothed v6 rear valance
both front and rear valances colour coded
front grills smoothed and painted gloss black

you done reall se bodykits in car mags its all "euro" and "smooth", i do like smooth but its abit boooring, bodykits (when done right) lookj good and make your car stand out from the crowd, they are expensive cost me 700 for the kit, and another 800 to get its sprayed and fitted, excluding the bonnet whoich was another 250, i love the results though :D

That totals £1750 for everyone that's too lazy to work it out. I'd still rather use that money for performance upgrades though. Each to their own I suppose.

£1750 spend on my car would see me near the 300bhp mark. subtle is alot better imo as it requires the observer to pay more attention to see whats actually been done to the car. what can look like a standard car couple have had alot of time spend on it fitting otherparts that look standard

bodykits on corsas an saxos pointless. how ever on a skyline, 350z. nsx. subaru an others. look good. but they are there for a purpuse. bigger front grille aids in cooling. brake ducts to cool brakes an pervent brake fade. wide archs= bigger track width= better cornering speed, handlering an such like.

Think of the cost for a full body kit, fitted and sprayed professionally. I'd rather spend that money on performance.

I look at it the same way my friend,

and also I think that body kits are going out because the people who actually do a proper job and spend the time getting it right are sick an tired of getting associated with people doing botch jobs on there cars, and getting called "chavs" it's a shame really, I mean people put the dimma kit on the pugs because the rally cars had them, I haven't seen on in ages now....

i used to be right into my bodykits and wings etc... then i got older and wiser and realised what a complete and utter waste of time and money they are.

people always used to say to me "why dont you just be a decent car instead?" and ya know what, they were right!

My corrado has very few external touches, yellow tinted lights up front, satin black alloys, Satin black VW badges, lowered (lots!), smoothed rear panel, colour coded rear number plate plinth, and soon tb be sporting all red rear lights. the difference between a standard Rado and mine is MASSIVE! and it was a bloody god looking car to start with!

I think the main issue i have with bodykits is Jap style body kits on euro cars, vauxhalls, pugs, renaults, citroens etc. It just looks wrong!!!!!!

Here in Estonia we have jap-style body kits on bimmers etc.
If i get my 10 posts, then i can post here some exsamples.
My vision of my car are to have rims painted mat black with little bit red paint.
tinted tail lights, tinted windows, mat black car.
And lower a little bit car.
I think it will be great,but we`ll see.:p

hiya ( newbie here ), thought id join the debate , a bodykit can look good if done right, ive seen some awful examples tho , like a mkIV escort with a mkV or IV kit on it ... square cars dont suit round kits!!! nicely done an subtle does look good , altho not many kits these days are subtle :toung:
think a chevette looks cool with the HSR kit on it (im into my older cars ) ...
and tbh 1700 odd quid would BUY me a car AND leave enough to mod it lol, so no , i wouldn't spend that much just on a kit

Thanks for posting those mate. These so-called Jap Style body kits aren't really Jap style though, they are just rip offs taken from The Fast and Furious.

for me it depends on the car and the kit that goes on it. some cars look find without any true external mods (don't consider lights a true mod, kinda like a paint job to me) but the kit has to match the original shape of the car. unless you are gonna spend a few thousand on a good kit that actually improves the performance of your specific car, they are just for style and should be one of the final mods you do if at all.

I agree. If all you've got is the body kit and people ask you about the power/engine you ought to be embarrassed to tell them it's stock.

Some body kits work some dont, I am not a fan of the 'bloody obvious' for instance I don't like Veilside kits much especially the copies that go even more over board

Would you beleive this is a Kit I done on a DB9

I kind of cheated as they are OE panels but nothing fitted and I had to change every panel I fitted.

Front bumper was too long, rear bumper was too short, side skirts were too long, you get the idea but the finished item looks good.

This also a kit I made for the XK

I like it....I would...I did it....

But that Calibra above ......Pass me the sick bag!!

Don't get me wrong I LIKE Calibras but the one above with the bodykit on, just looks horrible.

I remember when Calibras first came out and in (I can't quite remember think it might of been CCC) one of the mags was the Matig Calibra, wide body kit, now that looked tasty

Body kits are good if they serve a purpose. I.E. Aero dynamics, cooling brakes, air intake, ect. But when they are cheap rip offs designed to just look gash and lairy then they are rubbish.

Oh, they are also cool for the duration of the film The Fast and Furious.

Why ruin the body of the already beautiful DB9? and besides it looks almost like the DBS so is quite pointless,

That said the XK8 body kit looks quite tasteful

Thats because I did convert it into a DBS, pointless hmmm maybe but the extra £100K for a DBS, not so pointless

I do a lot of weird and wonderful things to XKs you can buy them quite cheap and you have a pretty powerful car underneath it all

Another of my creations

Hmm, next question can a 306 be turned into a DBS replica? ;)

Nice work there, nice to see such a high standard of finish. The cars must have taken ages and your Jag look so much nicer than the stock XJS.:D

As I have said in other threads I will do anything that interests me and of course if somebody is willing to pay the price

But thanks for the comments, I have sold a few DBS replica panels to someone who is fitting them to a Supra.

If anyone is interested I can do DBS front bumper quarters, side skirts and rear diffuser, with a little imagination you could make them fit.

Here's something I am doing at the moment

An XK with a hint of DBS :blink1:
