Hi all, I've just joined so go easy on me :toung:
I've recently got myself a lovely white 335D and love the power (even more than my old e46 m3). Anyway, I've been reading up on getting it remapped.
I'm in kent and have a few companies around that can do it but have found one
(sorry if i'm not allowed to say the name) aptuning
Which I have looked into and found that they are bmw specialists so would possibly be a good place to go to. The guy there says he can remap these 335d's to around the 350bhp and 700Nm torque mark and possibly even slightly better fuel consumption, which would be fantastic!
I suppose all I really want to know is, is this really possible and has anyone else heard of aptuning?
Good price as well. A couple of the other companies i've rang want over £600! :amazed:
If anyone can help me decide before I pay out, step in please.

Your post got stuck in the moderation queue as you require 10 posts before you can upload pics or links. Due to this i've removed the link.
Have a wander round an you'll soon hit 10. :)

Yes it can be done. I dare say waynne has heard of them as he's based near you. HDi is the remap man around here so I'm sure he'll fill you in once he's seen this thread.

Diesel remaps usually yield better mpg on the cruise. Mine gave me a 30% increase in power and torque and uppesd the mpg by about 3 or 4 on the average.

From what I've read the remap on the 335d engine just makes an awesome engine even more awesome. 600 is too much to pay though, probably charging that cos its a beemer, even a bespoke remap shouldn't be much more than 400.

go for it, you'll not regret it.

Cheers guys, been having a shop around today to be on the safe side. Dms wanted around £700! Evolve £450 and sanspeed near me £400. So went back to this aptuning guy and he's reassured me that if after the mapping has been done and I dont like it he'll put it back to stock for free. If it is good though then he wants £375 which I think is reasonable. so i'll post back in a couple of days after its been done. Fingers crossed.

You'll be gone for quite a while matey. A remapped 335d is going to hold your attention for a long time before you'll want to get out, sit down and type up your post. They're seriously rapid.

Well thought i'd report in with my remap experience.
was at aptuning for 9.30am this morning and after a cuppa and a chat about what I wanted from the remap, I went for the full on performance map.
A diagnostic check was performed before anything else. He even checked my oil breather just to make sure it was clean and checked the hoses were nice and tight. Then down to business! A copy of my ecu's software was taken and then work begun on modifying the software. About an hour later the modified map was ready and it was loaded on to the car, also the speed limiter was removed ;)
after an intial few mins of letting the car warm up again and checking there was no smoke pouring out we went for a test drive. Oh my god! Its like an animal. The power comes in earlier and just doesnt seem to stop coming.
why didnt bmw make it like this to start with?
after about 20 miles running it in I then noticed that at cruising at 70mph the mpg has risen by about 3mpg! Apparently down to having more torque can improve the mpg.
so I paid up and said thanks and went for a drive. I've now done about 100miles more today and the car feels even better than when it was first remapped. Another positive is that the throttle feels so much more responsive and ready to go when I am.
so all in all a well worth while experience and I recommend going to aptuning in kent if you want a honest and reliable remap.
If its ok with the mods i'd like to give aptuning's number of 07738236577. If this is not ok then please delete, as I know theres forum rules and stuff.
next thing is to get the front wheels refurb as they have a few scuffs. Hmm might look at getting some better brake pads aswell??

in answer to your question its because folk dont service theyre cars or look after them properly. the engines are also mapped for poor fuel quality as well.

the increase in torque does mean better fuel economy in diesels

the fact its being better is down to the engine adapting/

as for better brake pads i recommend ferodo ds2500s

Yeah I thought as much myself on why manufacturers don't make cars like this in the first place.
Thanks for the advice on pads ;)
I've actually just got off the phone to my mate who knows someone who works for a bmw dealership. Apparently bmw could of remapped my car for me but with not so much gains and a hell of a dent in my pocket to the sound of around £800 :amazed:

I read through the remap my 335d and wandered if you are using mobile mapping agents should be recommended, if so, it would be better to use in Aberdeen

Told you you'd like the results. Glad that you're impressed. You've probably now got midrange clout which would give 911 drivers cause for concern. 500+ lbft is serious muscle.

Do make sure you inform your insurance company though.

I think the recommendation and phone number is fine. It's not as if you're promoting them for any benefit to yourself.

I wouldn't worry too mcuh about the brake pads. BMW factory brakes are more than up to the job in my opinion unless you want to take the car on a track. Stick with OEM pads, which, in this case, I believe are manufactured by Jurid.

Yeah I phoned my insurance company and it cost me an extra £45. which I didn't think was bad.
Only reason I was thinking of upgrading the pads was obviously due to the extra performance, and the fact that the pads are nearly ready for replacement anyway. discs don't look bad at all so will stick with them.
Had a slight issue yesterday, which i promptly rang aptuning up about. Went over and saw him last night and he test drove my car and then did a diagnostics. Diag wise there was nothing there. But on driving we could hear a hissing from somewhere. Checked under the bonnet and found a hose was hanging off a little. set it back on and all was good again.

You could possibly invest in a set of upgraded hoses, and make sure they are all secured with proper pipe clips - the ones you screw up rather than just use a pair of pliers to tighten. Upgraded hoses are a couple of hundred, but pipe clips would only be 10 or 20 quid. I changed a lot of the clips in mine when I had the remap, just to be sure they wouldnt pop off under the extra pressure.

Unless you have serious concern about the effectivness of the brakes then I'd leave well alone. Just make sure that you stick rigidly to the fluid change interval (which BMW specifies at two years and is indicated on the MID with the little clock face indicator). Jurid pads are uniformly excellent, even right from cold, in my experience.

Use DoT 4 low viscosity fluid - I'd stick with BMW's own stuff - only about £10 for a litre.

do it! the reason is he said he will put it back to stock for free if you dont like it is because you will instantly fall in love with it, be carefull though, there a rocket ship re mapped!
