now my hks induction kit is on with a cold air feed from the original box would a heat shield make any difference?
if so where would be the best place to get 1 or the material to make 1?

If fitting only one heatshield, I would protect the air filter from as much underbonnet heat as possible and improve the fresh air flow to it. Can you re-site the overflow bottle to the other side? This will also give you more room for a heat shield.

Will it be for show or affect. If for show then any thing shiny will do, stainless, polished ally etc. You may be able to buy one from a shop specialising in your car.

If for affect, then any heat reflecting or insulating material will do the job. Metal can be used if covered with a heat reflecting material. Plastic works pretty well for lowish temperatures away from very hot items such as exhausts.

Having said all this, metal shields will have some affect on temperatures, but not as much as one made from decent insulating materials.

The standard filter box is usually pretty good at protecting the filter as their outlets are usually near a cold air supply (or at least a less hot one). Fitting one such as you have may improve air flow (I say may) but it will certainly (IMO) increase the intake air temperature unless protected.

As to whether you will notice any difference, I doubt it unless driving flat out up the strip or under bonnet temperatures are very high. If this is the case I would also consider wrapping the exhaust.
