What is the best measure of a cars performance?

We tend to go on the popular quoted figures of BHP and 0-60 times. But are these enough?

Should we instead go on 30-70mph times and look more closely at Torque or the power to weight ratio?

Power to weight sounds good but I think this should be Torque to weight rather than BHP. Torque is what pushes you forwards after all.

In 3rd gear 30-60 would be sensible as this is probably what most of us will be doing.

Maybe for seasoned 1/4 mile specialists like yourself RB, but for us mere mortals, just watching the speedo climb very quickly is usually good enough!

Analogue dials do give sense of performance that raw numbers simply cannot convey.

Watching the whole world seemingly go into reverse as your accelerate up a M-way entry ramp is quite rewarding.

agree rob...all the tastes like 0-60 70-130 are not good test!!for example disels are better 70-130 than petrols of same power, but on track the petrol is faster...and as rob said it soesnt include aerodinamics,handling...for example take gtr r35 on track is faster than murchielago 640,or carrera gt witch have much more hp!but nissan handles much better!so the only test would be track!:D

ohh yea didnt pay atention to that :D...but i dont think the ring is good-its only power and grip...there is nor fast changes in direction, almost no braking...etc..so ring would be pure power..but its not about ideal messure of performance-couse ideal doesnt exist...but the track is the best of wath we have...and on other hand there is no driver that car drive 2 laps completly same, and that difrence if the track is more to power or handling will only be felt if the difrence between cars is big...its much more likely that driver will make the difrence...
